I began designing my own card/board game a few months back and eventually got to the point where I needed to begin designing the actual cards (written-on blank cards are great, but not quite the aesthetic publishers are looking for). I studied graphic design in Uni over 10 years ago and ended up not taking a career in it so lost a lot of my knowledge but have always had the itch to get back into it. Designing my own game was the perfect way to do this and I have to say a MASSIVE thank you for all the videos you have posted regarding using Inkscape. I have watched so many now and each one always teaches something new, even it is as simple as 'paste width'. I have never come across a much better tutorial on KZbin no matter the subject, and although you are obviously so knowledgeable about using the programme you are amazing at keeping things at a workable pace. Again, thank you for making my journey back into graphic design that much easier and if my game ever makes it to store shelves then you will be certainly getting a mention in the manual. Thanks Nick and keep up the brilliant work!!!!

Do you think inkscape has nothing to envy to illustrator?
@stupid5pin4 жыл бұрын
@@argenisjimenez8118 I think they're very comparable and I've been able to do great work with both. However, despite being used for the same purpose, they're laid out completely differently and similar functions have completely different names, which is why videos like this one are extremely helpful to someone who decided to stop paying Adobe and start using alternatives that don't cost so much.

12:34 breaking and path union - I had trouble here for ages despite several repeats and looping the video. I found out why (in case anyone else having the same problem) ... Outer border stroke to path appears to work fine but the next step (break apart) fails because (in my set up at least) the stroke to path step created a GROUP of two objects which must be ungrouped before the break apart step will work. Inserting the un-group step makes it work as demonstrated. No idea why mine creates a group while the video appears not to but it was frustrating until I discovered the reason for the problem. Incidentally, I should have paid more information to the information bar beneath the canvas as it tells you what selected items are composed of - definitely keep an eye on it, it will help you solve problems much faster.
@benjaminruback4096 Жыл бұрын
I have also tried and replayed these steps (stroke to path, break apart, union for each border) over and over. Super frustrated. Can't figure out why it's not behaving the same as in your tutorial given that I've followed the same steps. I am also seeing that stroke to path creates a group automatically and will make sure to try your ungroup rec in my next attempt! Thanks

Hi Nick. This turned out to be a major drag. I thought I solved the problem with Stroke to Path -> Break Apart by using new offset feature. Little did I know, you use Break Apart later on with boxes around the text. The offset thing doesn't work here.
@艾肯瑞4 жыл бұрын
Can anyone explain the process of Stroke to path -> Break apart -> Union/Difference ? I understand stroke to path just converts the rectangle into a path object and Union or Difference are just path operations, but why is the break apart step necessary? Aren't the rectangles separate anyway?
