We have a big dog with a long tail, two adult cats, and now two rescue kittens. We put a small kook in an inconspicuous place near the ceiling, or in trim around a window or door. We run fishing line from the cup hook to the top of the tree. Unbreakable ornaments go at the bottom and anything special goes at the top. The cup hook and fishing line insure that the tree can’t actually fall over and have saved us grief for over 20 years of being pet parents! (And 27 years of being people parents!)

Everything looks absolutely stunning. You nailed the English Country look you were going for. Love the ivy, as well as the lamps and using the little boxes. I have used ketchup on my Revereware copper bottom pans for years and they are 55 yrs. old. Just spread it on and let it sit for awhile, rub it off. One downfall is that the smell of the ketchup will make you crave french fries!!😂 As always, your decorating is fabulous.😊

The little candles are for revolving chime ornaments. THe heat from the candles hits the 'fan' and the current of the heated air makes the 'fan' revolve, and small chimes are hit. The candles you asked about are used for the larger German Christmas Pyramids that originated in the Erzgebirge mountain region of Germany. They create heat to turn , (the often nativity themed) ornament that has a whirlygig thing-deal, (technical term) at the top to propel the mechanism 😊 I like the ivy too! And I think holly with red berries is traditional also. (The Holly and The Ivy...isn't that an old English song? Or maybe a pub...)

I have mobility issues from RA. But your videos have inspired me to decorate my house for Christmas. I watched this one and last year. I had already decided that certain things in my house would be nice with a red velvet bow on them. Garland can’t be put on my mantle because it’s all brick but I’ll be putting it on the fireplace enclosure. Might try to put my very large Fitz and Floyd Christmas bowl on the mantle. I have a 8 inch tall Amish buggy that I’ll place on snow and lots of bottle brush trees. Many years ago I bought a brass reindeer and sleigh at an estate sale for $12. It goes on my coffee table. Its amazing. Over 30 yrs ago I went to the prop sale for Better Homes and Gardens. I purchased 12 ornaments that are natural curtain rings with linen inside them. They have been in many books and several magazines. Our tree ornaments are a reflection of our life. From vacations, pets, activities and people we cherish. There are 3500 lights permanently installed on our 9 foot tree. It’s amazing. My husband got all the Christmas decorations out today so I’ll be working slowly on getting things in place. This is a huge challenge for me. But I’m a grandma now and want my granddaughter to have a very special time with her family. I love your style. It’s more like mine. I’ll be watching your last video at least 10 times to get all your ideas. Thank you so very much for sharing your experience and ideas with us all!

Every room looks so serene, but festive! I especially enjoyed seeing the decorated tree. I love it! I had never seen a plaid star tree topper before, but it is perfect for the room. For me, adding red berries to the greenery, was a perfect touch to brighten things up. It was so nice to see the tree against a snowy scene. I moved from upstate NY to central VA, and snow is a rarity. The only time I miss it, is this time of year. Otherwise, not so much! Here, a half inch of snow closes schools. Three inches, and it’s closed for days! My kids grew up in a tiny village, and walked to school. Closings were too rare for their tastes. (I of course still had to travel to and from work!) It was great to see a wintery Christmas tree scene!

I've found that as I decorate my Christmas tree, inevitably little bits of the tree make their way down to the carpet, so I don't put my tree skirt in place until I am finished decorating and have vacuumed the area under and around the tree. So I'm curious why you would put your skirt down before you even started decorating. Such a beautiful room. I like English traditional and seeing the extra Christmas touches and how you did them with thrift store buys is great. Wish I was half as creative! Loved the addition of the ivy, it fits right in with the old English Christmas song "The Holly and the Ivy."

*Sherry you Christmas 🎄 Tree and decor 🎍💚🦌 is stunning - but that is NO SURPRISE to me❣️ I L❤️VE the "new" old lamps you brought back from your stash. The red lamp shades, the Fitz and Floyd ceramic boxes, the touches of brass everywhere, along with the 2-toned copper and brass spittoon and the Tartan Plaid Star tree topper are beautiful touches for a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. I personally like 👍🏼 brass the way your vase was BEFORE you aged it, but I like my brass and copper bright and shiny. I use ketchup on copper, and fresh-squeezed lemon 🍋 juice with coarse salt to clean up brass beautifully.😍 You do you, Sherry❣️😜🥰😊😉 You asked about the doily as well as the berries and ivy over the mantle - I L🤍VE the way they all look‼️The berries, ivy, coniferous swag, red ribbons and pinecones are so festive‼️😘 Kudos 👏👏👏 to you for tying the plaid bows to branches from your yard to make picks for a more natural and rustic look to your Christmas 🎄 Tree. And, of course, the birds on your tree were a necessity❣️🥰 I liked your wood box and the mini tree🎍on your hearth and the 4 wreaths in that room❣️ The foyer with hydrangeas, pinks, greens and ecru looks gorgeous 😍 and the angel 😇 looks SO MUCH BETTER as a figurine without the candle cup - good call on that, Sherry❣️👌 Your English Cottage decor is some of the prettiest I have ever seen...thanks for sharing your styling genius with us❣️XOXOXO ❤️💚🎍❄️💙🤍🎄❤️*

@@CanterburyCottage *You're welcome, Sherry. 😊 If you want to make it easier to clean small pieces, cut the lemon 🍋 in half, (like you were going to make lemon slices) pour coarse salt all over the lemon half about 1/4th inch thick, put the cut half down on your brass, then squeeze the lemon as you rub the salted lemon half back and forth on the brass. Add salt as needed. You should see your lemon start to look blackened as the tarnish is removed. For a bigger piece like your vase, I would take a small glass bowl or ramekin, put 1/4th to a 1/2 cup of lemon juice in the bowl and add enough coarse salt to make a paste. Take a large piece of an old white t-shirt or flour sack towel, dip it in your lemon juice salt paste and rub over your brass. You'll have a blackened shirt or towel, so make sure it's a rag you don't care about! 😉 I typically rinse when done and then wash my item(s) with Dawn dish soap and towel dry. For the ketchup on copper, I squirt a big blob of ketchup in a glass bowl and paint it on my copper piece(s) with a soft paint brush so I don't have ketchup all over my hands. Then I let it sit for about 30 minutes and take an old white cloth and wipe away an area in a swirling motion to see if the ketchup has been on the piece long enough to clean the copper. If not, another 10 minutes usually does the trick. Then I rinse off any ketchup residue with cool water. Wash with Dawn and towel dry.* *You'll have to let me know how this works for you. 😊 BTW, these methods won't work if your pieces have a clear sealer, Sherry. If they do, Google how best to remove your clear sealer first, then remove the tarnish as above.*

Hi Sherry. I find Lemon juice cleanse brass very well. Ivy is a compulsory leaf together with holly at Christmas in my home in Jersey anyway. I also add branches of Bay. As the leaves dry the smell is lovely. I think the glass cloche lamp would make a great place for one of your Christmas vignettes , maybe a skating rink or a snow covered woodland. Though I live in the Channel Islands now I lived for 20 years in the UK. English Cottage Christmas is very me. (I’m Canadian by birth). I liked the aged brass plant pot but I love brass that sparkles in the lights. As always Sherry each of your rooms were beautiful and decorated with such taste. Roll on next week. Thank you & Take care!!

Yes to the ivy👍🏻 The small candles are Christmas candles for putting on the Christmas tree. In Scandinavia we use real candles on our Christmas trees. The language is Finnish, which I can’t read😊

You know, Sherry, what I love most about your decorating style is that you love things, unusual things and have a way of making everything fit together cohesively. I have never been a fan of minimalism so I appreciate how you decorate your home. The spirit of Christmas is definitely in your decor. English cottage style is a design that I love (dark academia being my favorite). As for ivy, a resounding YES. I know it's bad for brick but if I could I would have a cottage completely covered in ivy with only the windows peeking through. TYFS.

Wow you've been busy. It all looks so cosy and festive and the abundance of tartan is stunning. I love what you did you with the angel, and was pleased to see the table mat trees return - they're one of my favourite projects of yours. Poor puppy will have to make do with gazing longingly at your lovely tree, because yes, I can picture much havoc and disarray should he decide to bound about the place 😁🥰

I really, really love the antique looking angel. I'd find it hard to put away after Christmas. Maybe just move to the bedroom? Not a fan of the large ivy. Looks like grape leaves to me. Doily is charming, sets off each element nicely. I gave away most of my decor, but kept my deer. Will try to incorporate ribbons, not sure yet what color. Didn't think I would care for the tree, but it turned out beautiful. Am going to steal your idea of the branches tied with ribbon. Really improved the fake tree. I want to make some bead garland, maybe with pine cones or jingle bells. Does anyone else miss the softness of the old tree lights? I am all for energy saving, but the brightness of the LED is BRIGHT. The pink and cream colors in the foyer are more my taste, yet the living room evokes a nostalgia. Thanks for sharing and inspiring. I've been looking forward to this all weekend! Enjoy your evening, you definitely earned it. There are some metal cleaners that are mkre environmentally friendly. It comes with a sponge and it's like a jar of dry paste. Can't remember the name but it's for a wide range and it is probably safer to have around. TFS.

●You can clean brass and copper with fine steel wool. ● I was brought up un UK mid 50s- 70s and we never saw popcorn or cranberry springs on Christmas trees. Prio to this was WW2 and they wouldn't have been used, or during the 30s depression years. To us in England these have always been American style. Not English. Never-the-less... ●I LOVE you posts. And this was very nostalgic for me (now living in NZ) Keep them coming. ❤

Hi Sherry , I looked at those candles and I think they are called remembrance candles. In certain churches they offer these to parishioners to light and place on a shelf as a reminder of a loved one that has passed away.

Years ago when my twins were little I bought a tiny section of a small white picket fence, maybe 3 feet tall. I put this up in a semi-circle around the tree, not firmly but just so it would stand up. I was more a visual barrier than a physical one - the wee ones could still touch the branches and ornaments. But they couldn't stumble into the tree and knew not to climb it - LOL! By the next year, they were old enough not to knock the whole thing down. Maybe it would work with a dog...
