Hi. When you put plenty of stripper on the chair, wrap it loosely in cling film. Stripper then stays active longer, it doesn't dry out... side note.... you're looking super!

Yes! Was struggling getting about 7 layers of paint of wood and found this suggestion on someone YT. Left the stripper on for several hours covered with cling film and came back to scrap. Stripper was still wet, and piant came off like a dream!

Also maybe using a metal bristle brush. Also, it seemed the areas with more product on worked better, so to really slather it on.

I have used both the super toxic (and effective) stripper and most recently the all natural non toxic stripper. A tip that I have is for the non voc version is to put your coat of the product on and loosely cover it with plastic...it can be a bin bag or anything like that. It keeps it from drying out and it works so much faster and with less applications of product. I learned the hard way so I hope this tip helps someone else.

Dear Catherine, Bless you ! I’ve been watching you for years! You are lovely, inside and out! The hands gently holding seeds for the tiny bird are very touching! They signify that we are loved and cared for down to the tiniest little creature. Perfect for your Mamas gravesite. I have faith that you will refurbish the chair perfectly. I also have 2 kitties, they are sisters, one a tortoise shell and one a dilute calico. They make me laugh and love them every day! I’m glad to see you dressing up and getting out. Your Mom would want you to be happy and active. You are beautiful - make up or not! 😃🩷🇨🇦

The only other thing I can think of for sanding is a dremel multi tool, you can get little sanding things for them, hope this helps 😊
@heathers8826Ай бұрын
I second the Dremel. They have a sanding set for spindles and other curvy bits and bobs. It will still take a while to sand it all down so I recommend an audiobook while you're at it. Sanding is just par for the course in furniture refinishing.

Good lord Catherine you look stunning in last part of the video with your highlights, absolutely beautiful. Make sure you take a photo of yourself like this, when you get old and looking back, you will not beleive how beautiful you were. Maybe you can try a hard plastic bristle brush to get the varnish off on the spindles. That chair will be really nice, patience you will get to remove everything. I love it when you take us along for your shopping trips. Nice idea for your Mam's flower bed, the hand with the bird. Have yourself a great week and thank you for sharing these videos very much appreciated.

Hello again, I love thrift and rehome stores for the purposeful inspiration to make something more or new to me/you. I took an old kitchen cabinet and used upcycled and bartered items to create a little free library for my front yard- it has become a meeting place for neighbors and children love to find their own books and leave a book to share.... I love to see what you create !!!!!

For spindles, I first use an exfoliating glove (like for the body) with soapy water; then if anything remains I use my Dremel tool. It's has lots of interchangeable tips and different speed settings. I prefer the cone tip on the second to the lowest setting for the tiny nooks and crannies ❤. I wrap my project in cling film too as someone else suggested.
@melissafields3376Ай бұрын
I just came across a video that shows an easier way to strip the spindles instead of a Dremel! Get a piece of sandpaper and cut it into thin strips (different widths is best) then grab the ones that fit into the curves/grooves of your spindles ! Works great
@janjohnson4919Ай бұрын
I love the bird bath... How nice you could leave it for your Mom. My mom used to talk about getting furniture "dipped". The whole item was dipped in wood stripper (by the person who does it) and then you go pick it up when dry. There wouldn't be personal satisfaction of DIY ... but chemicals are so hard for me I wouldnt care..I hear you about migraines.
@tinekejoldersmaАй бұрын
There's an eco stripper out there made of soja, and it is a beast. Wrap the chair, after applying, in cling wrap so it won't dry. And in the end, use a special scraper. Take care and have a lovely night out. You look gorgeous.

"Denatured alcohol" works wonderfully at removing varnish...it emulsifies the varnish,so it wipes right off. Works "ok" on removing paint but takes a bit of time and effort. Whatever removal product you use, finish off with wiping with denatured alcohol for a really clean surface. Great video, thank you!

Your hair looks amazing for the pub. I like a brand called citristip for stripping. It does have quite the strong smell but as a migraine sufferer as well it wasn't too bad. I found that it does help to plastic wrap the item and let it sit longer than 10-15 minutes. I used a scraper and it came off in satisfying ribbons with a few spots like spindles and edges needing a finer tooth edge tool like a straw brush or a tooth brush.

Hi Catherine! Seeing you worked on your chair is a good reminder I must do something with two of the chairs I have in the kitchen : they're 2 old baumann bistro style chairs i had picked up for cheap and painted year ago - the paint is gone in and they really looked shabby (and definitely not chic!) so i have to sort them. I had tried non toxic remover on a different piece of furniture and it did take a lot of effort. I'll definitely use the cling film tip given in the comment when i get round to it. Nothing to do with furniture upycling but i love how you said You look amazing to Beag when you look amazing yourself :) you'd be a great witch with the perfect cat for Halloween , and I'm sure your niece and nephew would love it! Have a lovely Sunday!
