This was my favorite way of accessing files back in the MacOS 8-9 days where you could put folders in the Apple menu like this and access the contents as drop down menus.

Thank you for this incredible video. "Never Stop Learning,". Gary, did you made a video about Audio to Text, not from Voice Memos, using mp3 or wave format. Podcast recordings using a DAW for example. How can I do that on my MacBook Pro with Sequoia, and not using Microsoft Office 365
@macmost21 сағат бұрын
You can use Notes. You may need to convert the audio to mp3 or m4a first. But a better way is probably a third-party app or service. Look at MacWhisper (called Whisper Transcription in the Mac App Store).

I've done this before, but I hated that folders aren't represented as folders and it was confusing to look at all jumbled up. This gave me some good tips for numbering the names and using a folder icon emoji in the name. Still wish it would just represent them as folders by itself, but this is a decent workaround. Nice video.

Thank you Gary for the tips. Can those items be listed as reverse order (sorted in a reverse order) by name?
@macmost13 сағат бұрын
No, doesn't appear to be a way to do that.

11:05 in recent OS updates something happened that personalized icons work unreliably in external drives. My personal icons disappeared and normal folder icons were restored… currently adding a custom icon works but it creates an “icon?” file in the folder… That can be hid but it should be hidden automatically. Have you noticed that behavior?
@macmostСағат бұрын
Probably has to do with the format of your drive. If it is not formatted for Mac, it probably does what you describe.

Excellent vid. I've created a Quick Access folder, in it I have linked a couple of folders as per your instructions. I've put a folder icon as the first letter so it always lists the folders together. However, one of these folders contains a load of other folders amongst other stuff,. if I open that directory from within finder, they are grouped neatly by kind, if I open from within Quick Access, they are not. Do I have to use the work around of adding the folder icon to the first letter for all folders in sub folders too? Constantly adding and removing folders from one as I work my way through a music course, I'm sure I'll eventually remember to add the folder icon each time if I have to. Thanks
@macmostСағат бұрын
The folder icon is just visual, it doesn't change how it works. You don't have all of the options for sorting in the Dock as you do in the Finder.

Great post. Love it 😍 but I just have something that doesn't work. The Apps (aliases) don't show the icon of the application. I just get a little white sheet with a small arrow. I have MacOS Sequoia 15.2. Any idea why?

I want a dock that I can customize more. I don't want to see icons for apps I use often, like Viber and Telegram. I only want to see icons for the apps I actively use. -SIGH- another great vid, Gary, thanks!

You can remove and add apps from the left side of the Dock as much as you like.

Good Info! Thank you AGAIN! Q. My new MacBook’s have no longer have KB keys to increase or decrease KB Backlight intensity. I know they’ve moved, and how to workaround this change. I know how to make a short cut, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to create a shortcut so [special Key] + pressing F5 or F6 increase or decrease the KB backlight brightness. 🔅 🔆 What am I missing?
@macmost22 сағат бұрын
I don't think there is any way to adjust the keyboard brightness with the keyboard. But if you have a Shortcut, then I suppose you could set it as a "Service" and assign a keyboard shortcut to that in the Shortcuts app.

I use Notes more often than anything else, and you didn’t mention how to do this with Notes
@macmost21 сағат бұрын
If you want to access the Notes app, just do it like I show with other apps here. But if you mean go directly to a specific note, then it isn't so easy. There's no simple way to do it.
@KurtPapke21 сағат бұрын

@@KurtPapke Create a Shortcut in the Shortcut app which open this specifically note, and add the shortcut in the folder in the Dock?

I have several suites of photo editing apps that I use this method for quick access to individual apps within the suites, with a dock folder for each suite that I changed the icons to the logo for the ‘parent' programs. Much quicker to access the individual apps and keeps the main dock less congested. Btw I just used a keyboard shortcut I use all the time to insert a misssing word in my text above - pressing the alt key and the left or right arrow keys allows you to step through your typed text one word at a time.
