In this video, we create a woven bamboo texture with a herringbone pattern. Using a couple of nodes and some Tile Generator magic, we can easily create this type of pattern by building the right mask. Woven bamboo textures can be applied to chairs and baskets and with the rotation option for a 45 degree option, we can apply this material in a variety of ways. Hope you like it!

Going back through your tutorials again and I truly love the way you go about and explain things slowly as well as the reasons who chose the nodes that you did. It's endlessly helpful for beginner learners like me still grappling with nodes and remembering what they do :) Would you consider a muddy texture for a next tutorial maybe? Haha!

Thank you for the helpful video. key points I've learnt: - the roughness map should follow the geometry. This is why he doesn't just plug in a random noise map to the roughness, but a main map similar to the geometry blended with a random noise map. This is because roughness, physically speaking, determines how much the light spread reflecting off the surface, which is highly linked to its geometry. On top of that, roughness has the capacity to tell a story, so if the material is under certain conditions, the roughness variation under the form of noises should be blended with the geometrically-derived roughness map. - use histogram scan and blur nodes to inflate shapes. This is because the blur adds gradients to the borders of the shapes, which can be scanned using a histogram scan node. - switch to iray renderer for a better description of the roughness map. - use blend's copy mode to blend two maps together with the use of opacity. For some reason I only think about multiply/add when I think of blend. - go to materials --> edit --> global --> tiling to see how the tiling would look like if the map is tiled in other softwares. - clever use of the the tile generator's vertical mask to make the herringbone pattern. some personal observation: - some maps look practically the same after being inverted. I find this interesting.

Really great takeaways! I like what you said about the roughness map. That’s very true, it does tell a story and is such an integral part of a material! Really great! Appreciate your comment!

Hii Jeremy! Really thanks for this and wool fabric tutorial. It is so easy to understand and explained in steps. I want to create fabric texture of herringbone tape. If possible, can you please guide on how to achieve it. Thanks

Thank you very much..learn a lot from you..what is your suggestions about repetition texture..? How to avoid it..? Like a brick texture..it's easily git repetitive pattern in a large surface..
@JeremySeiner
@JeremySeiner 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 😊 I have found that making something more general without specific parts of detail say in a corner of the texture helps prevent things looking tiled. Hope that helps! Also depending on what shader you are using, you could layer on a larger scaled up map with some noise and blend that on across the tiles to blend it a little more.

I'm trying to use a combination of this tutorial and the wool one in order to create a herringbone fabric pattern that can be used on an old phone handset cord - therefore the pattern needs to repeat a lot as the scale of it is quite small. I am getting stuck though, where I have the texture looking how I want except for the normal and height maps. The herringbone pattern is coming through too strongly for my liking and the loose strands of fabric are hardly coming through at all. I basically want their intensities flipped. Any suggestions?
@JeremySeiner
@JeremySeiner Жыл бұрын
Cool idea! You could try using two different “normal” nodes and a “normal blend” node to adjust their intensities separately. Hope this helps!

Hmm. I would try right clicking the graph and choose “view outputs in 3D view” maybe the roughness output wasn’t connected to the 3D view for some reason. Hope this helps
