instead of histogram scan try Threshold node for mask its really useful

Alas, I do not seem to have that one. Very likely because I am still using 2019 and will likely never update. 😂 Just read the docs for it, definitely a more streamlined way to go if you have a newer version!

Been watching tutorial the whole day and not only is hard to find anything other than very unfocused timelapses, to find an actual fully explained process is almost impossible. You have my subscription.

Glad to have you onboard! Ya, Im not really sure why SD is still hard to find tutorials for. There are a couple channels that teach it really well but many others are exactly what you've said, unfocused timelapses. Not sure why? 🤔

Thanks for the tutorial, but I still have three problems with the exact mimic: 1. after the bevel node is used, even after adjusting smothing to 50, it is three segments with highlights at two 1/3rds, which gives me two noticeable creases in the normals and heights. 2. i don't have an Opacity node 3. i still have a break in the join after changing its opacity to 0.9 in the first blend node

Great content you are making!! I've always had trouble with making more complex patterns out of basic shapes so i'm really looking forward to this series! A great start!

Thank you for checking it out! I have learnt over the past couple years that all materials start with a single shape/idea. I'm looking forward to trying to capture the essence of many more complex patterns over the course of this series! :)

Thanks for the great content, your channel is refreshing! It feels good to be able to understand which node to use for a specific goal, why and how it works in details, instead of blindly following another timelapse :)

Great tutorial, thanks so much! A few questions, how do you quick add things from the library? Also how do you change the shape of the object your working with.
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 2 жыл бұрын
If you hit spacecraft in the graph panel you should be able to quick search for nodes. And in the 3D panel, if you go to Edit in the top left you should be able to change the mesh you are previewing in. Hope that helps! :)

@@GetLearnt No problem, Had me press my face against the screen looking for a little space craft lol. I had just one more question on how would I go about doing a Diagonal weave?
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 2 жыл бұрын
@@justyngandy1454 It will depend on what type of weave you're trying to accomplish but you could try a Transformation 2D node after you've created the initial 4 overlapping bands so that once you tile it everything has been rotated at 45 degrees. Rotating things get's tough when you need it to line up on the opposite side of the texture sheet though, so you may find that it only really works at certain angles of rotation. Otherwise, your best bet may be to just rotate the initial single shape and update the gradient accordingly with the same rotation and try using the same blending techniques from there. :)

Hi, first of all, I want to say to you thanks for making this tutorial! It's a very flexible way to fix that pattern! Btw I was wondering as I followed the steps(I'm really new to this program) why my 3d view doesn't show me clear edges shadow around the height unlike yours. Is it related to the histogram and ambient occlusion node which you created almost at the beginning of the video?
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, happy it's been useful! And chances are that if you are having difficulty with your shadows, it will be related to the AO map. Make sure that you have an AO node going into the AO output so that it is being fed the correct info. With the AO node, you should have some parameters you can play with to make the shadows darker/more apparent if needed. If that still isn't working, it may be because the Height map that you would be plugging into that AO node just isn't contrasted enough so it is having trouble distinguishing height features. You can also try increasing or decreasing the range of the Histogram Range node to see if that helps it find those cavities. :)
@정민경-p2w
@정민경-p2w 3 жыл бұрын
@@GetLearnt yes! It was about the AO map, I didn't plug it into the AO output! Thanks for the such detailed explanation.

So when you add a Histogram Scan node, you're saying that your Opacity image is basically being flipped?
@schonkigplavuis8850
@schonkigplavuis8850 2 жыл бұрын
@@GetLearnt It's a small issue, but you had us prepare a basic template set-up which i used. And at that point you switched the template. So i didn't know i had to 3D view-click on the red node that has the height, AO and normals. But it works brilliantly :)

Thanks for taking the time to make your great tutorials. I just started with Substance, I was able to follow till the tiling job but when you started to make the opacity node, I notice that your node tree was different from mine. The tut starts bringing in the custom template you created in your other tut (which I followed too) but at the end, the base material node is missing and I don't have the output nodes shown in the in your screen. What I've missed?
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 3 жыл бұрын
Happy to help, thanks for checking out the videos! So I use that Custom node template to get things started a little easier with visualizing the Height map that we are creating, but ultimately for most materials we are then going to want to send the node information to final Output nodes. At this point I end up deleting the Base Material node since we don't really need it anymore and I re-direct the AO, Normal and Height information to the appropriate Output nodes to take over. You may remember at the start of the Custom Node template video, I actually use a default template to start (PBR Metallic/Roughness) which gives me those Output nodes, and then I go ahead and add that Base Material node into it and save that as my Custom template. If yours doesn't have them, it may be worthwhile to create a new one that has them and simply save over your previous template, or you could go ahead and add new Output nodes to your graph too, however I'd personally recommend the former option since you only need to add them once and your template will work every time. Hopefully that's been helpful, let me know if there's anymore questions! :)
