In this video, I will show you how to use the Mask Builder generator in Substance Painter, a powerful tool that allows you to create complex masks based on mesh topology using additional maps set up in the Texture Set Settings. You will learn how to adjust the parameters of the generator to create the desired mask, and how to apply it to your 3D models. You will also see some examples of masks created with different settings and effects.

To use the Mask Builder Generator in Substance Painter, you can follow these steps:
Open Substance Painter and select the layer you want to add the mask to.
Click on the Add Mask button in the Layers panel.
Select Generator from the list of available mask types.
Choose the Mask Builder generator from the list of available generators.
Adjust the parameters of the generator to create the desired mask.
The Mask Builder generator is a powerful tool that allows you to create complex masks based on mesh topology using additional maps set up in the TextureSet Settings 1. You can fine-tune the resulting mask by adjusting the generator’s parameters 1.
Ambient Occlusion: Grayscale input that sets the extent to which the effect should appear in occluded AO areas.
Curvature: Grayscale input that sets how much effect should appear on Curvature edges; can be both Convex and Concave.
Grunge Input: Grayscale input that sets the amount of Grunge to blend in globally.
Grunge Input 2: Grayscale input that enables a second custom Grunge input.
Mask (optional): Grayscale input that is used for masking the node’s effects.
Position: Color input that is used for Triplanar and Top-Bottom effects.
Scatter Input: Grayscale input that is required to make use of the Scatter parameters.
Level: Float input that sets the total level of the effect, gradually revealing.
Contrast: Float input that adjusts the contrast of the result.
Invert: Boolean input that inverts the result. Useful to achieve the opposite of the mask you are building.
Use Triplanar: Boolean input that enables Triplanar projection, avoiding any seams with grunge maps.
Triplanar Blending Contrast: Float input that sets the contrast for the Triplanar Blending.
Grunge Scale: Integer input that sets the scale of the global Grunge.
Use Custom Grunge: Boolean input that enables custom Grunge input.
Secondary Custom Grunge: Float input that enables a second custom Grunge input.
AO Range: Float input that sets the threshold or range for the appearance of dirt.
Convex Range: Float input that sets how much effect to appear on Convex (bright) curvature edges.
Convex Contrast: Float input that sets the contrast of the Convex effect.
Convex Invert: Boolean input that inverts the interpretation of the Convex edges.
Concave Range: Float input that sets how much effect to appear on Concave (dark) curvature edges.
Concave Contrast: Float input that sets the contrast of the Concave Range.
Concave Invert: Boolean input that inverts the interpretation of the concave edges.
Noisiness: Float input that sets the amount of noise/grunge to blend into the AO effect.
Noise Scale: Integer input that sets the scale of the AO noise/grunge.
Noise Type: Enum input that switch between 4 different types of AO noise: Spots, Cloud, Moisture, White Noise.
