How to use Generators in Substance Painter 2.6.1

In this tutorial video in Substance Painter 2.6.1 I will explain what generators are and how to apply and tweak them to your needs. It it is a very cool feature in Substance Painter to allow you to create edge wear, grunge, dirt etc.

Trying to remember: When you only want to use a generator on a small section like a handle, how do you section that off so it doesn't apply generator to the entire model?

Anyone know what the difference between a fill and a generator is? For example; I can use a grunge scratch texture on both but what exactly do I benefit from inserting the grunge texture in a generator vs a fill?

What order do the layers read in? Say you have 2 base colors, the top layer will always override the lower layer unless you put a mask on it? That could get confusing if these layers have more then one property such as roughness or height all included in one.

Is it possible once the generated mask is applied, paint ontop of the black mask? I'm trying but cant see how - would be good to edit the resulting mask. Thanks

AO maps are automatically baked when the initial bake is done as a standard start of the process

I rly like substances metallic worflow, it also can automaticly generate edge wear without u having to bake curvature map somewhere else. Probably the most user friendly texturing software.

Hey Mike I've been studying with your videos mostly Maya for years now and been a great help so thanks for that mate! Quick question on Substance generators, is there any way to set a size or some kind of tiling? Because my mining environments are quite large, sometimes instead of making metal materials for each model I often simply make a 6mx6m plane textured to the kind of metal look I want (mostly dirt paint). I use overlapping UV's for whatever objects are using that material. The generators are useful but the resolution of the generator in relation to the real world scale is too large. Meaning the texture my 6x6 metal sheet does not look to scale in terms of grunge and dirt etc created by the generator. Increasing rust spreading just fill more of the plane. I want it to produce lots of smaller scale dirt if that makes sense? Thanks if you get chance !!
