The new MSEG's offer a lot of new possibilities, and consequentially also gives us a lot of control over how we want to shape and filter our basses. Even the oscillator shapes themselves are at our disposal and we can draw what ever shape we see fit. :)

Wow you really nailed a great sounding Bass. I have recently done a Psytrance bass with the grid and I'm quite pleased with the results. It's really important the way you make the process of audio with saturation, EQ and using of course the MultiBandFX.

This is such a science, it’s impressive, didn’t really understand why the multiband fx change the phase, actually i am confused across the board with phasing…but got to undestand how important the shape is..

Hey man, usually if I like a video I just press like and maybe I subscribe too if I think there could be more videos in the channel I could like, but I rarely comment. I loved how you created the oscillator, and all your surgical work with sound, it has really made me see sound sculpting in a different way that I really want to explore. Thanks!!!!

Yeah my compliments, I really enjoyed how you explained everything in details, also using only Bitwig stock devices is a big plus, we don't need zillions of useless plugins. The results are amazing, I agree. Really looking forward seeing more from you. Meanwhile I will investigate to fully understand what is "phase rotation".

Thanks a lot mate :)! Phase rotation is a bit tricky to wrap your head around at the beginning, but I'm sure there are some videos out there that explain it. No, we really don't need a ton of plugins :). (not that I really listen to my own advice...)

@@rumblechannel6343I gotta ask though... why use the EQ+ when it has latency issues? Did they fix that in the 5.0 beta?
@rumblechannel6343
@rumblechannel6343 Жыл бұрын
@@danemiller4852I know people have reported it but I never had any latency issues with the EQ+. It does affect the phase of course like any other non linear EQ, but I don't see this as a problem, just something to keep in mind.

@@danemiller4852 it's fine to use EQ+ in serial device chains, unless you phase-sync the track with other tracks (e.g. kick & bass in psytrance).

I see you're probably using some sort of TN panel monitor and thus compensate by making bitwig darker. Maybe keep it to the default settings when you make videos as it's very dark and undefined on a calibrated screen.
@rumblechannel6343
@rumblechannel6343 Жыл бұрын
I'm just a friend of the dark ;). And the lighting in my studio is usually quite dim, so I do have enough contrast. But you're totally right, I should use the default values when recording, thanks for pointing that out! Hope you liked it otherwise.

@@rumblechannel6343 Fair enough. It was the case for me though and noticed just how dark it looked with my settings once I got a decent monitor. Haven't gotten around watching the whole thing, so I'll do that later :)

I haven't watched this video to completion yet, but at around 11:12 you're showing how the Grid has inconsistencies/fluctuations in the produced waveform. Something I have discovered is that the Segments/MSEG has an 'enable smoothing' option, which (IIRC) is enabled by default, and seems to cause unpleasant inconsistencies from one trigger to the next. So, I always ensure that this option is turned off, and everything becomes precise and consistently repeatable. Don't know if this is what caused the issue in the video, but it made me think of it.

@@trevorpage7291 😆 It still a bit strange though isn't it, that smoothing should cause these fluctuations?
@trevorpage7291
@trevorpage7291 11 ай бұрын
@@rumblechannel6343 Agree, it is strange. It's like there is some 'woolyness' about their smoothing algorithm. It could be because their 'smoothing' algorithm doesn't have its state reset on trigger, maybe.

@@rumblechannel6343 Trying to get psyrance KBBB right is something I have spent so, so, so much time on, and watched so many tutorials on before. This one absolutely blows them away. This is outstanding. The number of basic concepts (which I feel I should have known, but didn't) that I've learned in just the first third is brilliant.

I think I had everything matching but then lost it after the Phase rotation. Mine started to sound muddy, my EQ is very smooth and not seeing the transients. Also what is your trick to get the scope to show a nice view. Mine just shows a few notes which were very stable until the phase rotation was added.
@Mateo-wf1yz

I have same problem when i try following the procedure. The EQ is not showing the transients and the scope is not showing the same as in the video despite following the procedure exactly. Is there a preset or setting for the EQ and scope that have to be enabled that is not shown in the video?
@Mateo-wf1yz
@Mateo-wf1yz 5 ай бұрын
Found the problem and its just a setting in the eq. Left-click on the bottom row in the top EQ window and there is some settings. Set Resolution to Huge and speed to Fast. Now it looks like in the video.

As far as the phase rotation is concerned I can't really tell what's going wrong. You can change the behavior of the oscilloscope in it's info bar on the left. Change the trigger mode to play and display scaling to about 34Hz.

Many thanks for that! Highly instructive and helpful. One question though - listening to these newly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emKxpnSagtVjmKM&si=fo1jP0pG7TyFRBJF It sounds that the bass low frequencies never ducked to zero (neither between each other nor with the kick) How can it be achieved using this instrument and method?
@rumblechannel6343
@rumblechannel6343 4 ай бұрын
Thanks! Well Mr. Tristan is a master of the genre and it's just not easy replicate that. That being said the bass line is definitely ducking in that track, but kick and bass just work very well together. To some extent you just have to experiment and tweak until you find a combination that works. I have a video on workflow where I show how you can facilitate the selection process. Also keep an eye on phase relation between kick and bass (google it, there are videos). We must also consider that his tracks are professionally mastered. And the mastering process, among other things, tends to "glue" stuff together so that it sounds like a single entity. Last but not least, there is a Tristan Masterclass on Future Phonics . It's well worth the money imo . (You'll also get one or two kick and bass samples from him) Cheers :)
