Thanks for making this. I love mucking about with custom camera views and your trick solves the issue I've been having. No idea why Asobo didn't make this easier for us. Its one of those simple things that adds a lot to your enjoyment of the sim. I think the only problem is that by fooling the camera into thinking its still in the interior cockpit mode is that pilots don't appear in the exterior views.

Hi Mr Murphy - I struggled with this for a while and I know you made this video a while ago. Came across it a few days ago and is the only video that expalins it well enough for this old lag to understand. Works like a treat, and a bit thank you . . Pugwash

Thanks Gibbo. I actually knew about the trick of editing the config file to get the camera outside the aircraft, but what I didn’t know was that all I had to do was reload the aircraft. I’ve been reloading the entire sim all this time 🤦♂️

Nice job, but what about fixed views to the side of the runway, to watch your plane land, and the camera follows it as it rolls down the runway?
@captainwealthy Жыл бұрын
I'm desperately trying to get a view underneath the fuselage, from behind the undercarriage, looking forward. This so I can see all my landing gear down, etc. But I'm struggling to do this.

New subscriber - enjoy your topics ! I was unable to even do the basic camera setup - using the "numpad" as you show in your video - until I read (FS Forum) that "numpad" doesn't work for custom camera views, you have to use the numeric keys at top keyboard. Tried - yes, that works. Just wondering how you managed to get the numpad keys to work solo - as that would be so much easier when flying ! Thanks for an update, if possible. Cheers.

Does this also work in the TBM. I've tried it, change 0 to -5, went in developer mode, change to the TBM but I can't get outside the cockpit. Thanks

I am using the saitek farming side panel and used your tuto to put some views. I did 10 views for Internal and 6 views for external. Thank you. PS : Do we have to change the number in the config file afterwards to put back 0 instead of 5 ? PS2 : it seems , after closing the game, that the additional views (external) are not working anymore. Is it because I did more than 9 views ?

Thank you for the video. I set up a few custom cockpit views, however, when I try to setup the external views and change the value to -5 in the camera.cfg file, I get a CTD everytime. Do you have any advice? I have the steam version of MSFS and I'm looking for the camera.cfg file inside Microsoft Flight Simulator\SimObjects\Airplanes\Aerosoft_CRJ_900
@TheEvilCookie012 жыл бұрын
Nevermind, I figured it out. You haver to setup atleast one inside cockpit view and set that value to the -5 before you set up any other outside views.

Two years later Asobo couldn't be bothered to add this. I'm happy with it, but lacking features like this are what keep MSFS in the game category.

sounds easy. But - I will definitely have to put a list of which number is which view besides my keyboard, my old brain can't memorize all of it. BTW how do you pan around the cockpit to get to the views that you want to save?
@alanbeasy1775 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. You may be able to solve another problem for me. I am finding that after making a custom view.... say Crl Alt 1 (or Ctrl Alt 2)...... when I want to select that view using Alt 1 or Alt 2 respectively, the view goes to some other location on the first click and takes a second click to go to the saved view. On some planes saved view 1 & 2 just goes to some random view from the back of the plane and I cannot overwrite it no matter how many times I do a reset. I have deleted the camera CFC file and saved just one view but that does not solve the problem either. Is there some other file that sets the initial view before a custom view is created - and can that be changed so that the default view is always the one I want for normal flying anyway? For some reason the problem does not occur if I use custom camera number 9, so for now I have my yoke button assigned to that in order to return to my pilot position. I have tried copying the “Initial xyz and Initial Pbh” numbers from the “Title 9” segment of the CFG file to the “Title 1” position but with no success. It is so frustrating. I just really just want to select ONE custom cockpit view for my pilot position in each plane so that I can jump back to that from anywhere after plannings around. Help.....???

search for "state.cfg" on your drives. Where the system finds it, that will be the right path

There are conflicting assignments that appear in the 'Save Custom Camera and 'Load Custom Camera!' In your video in the Save Custom Camera, yours says Right+Ctrl+Num. In my sim, mine says Ctrl+Alt+Num. Why is your 'Save Custom Camera' assignment different from mines and other users? Apparently, either you yourself have made these changes without mentioning this, or microsoft has assigned or added the additional key. I get angry at how the developers make this more complicated than it needs to be. Your fix is much more effective but I have to press Alt+Num keys to load these custom camera views when all I need to do is just press the number key. Why do THEY find it necessary that they have to add the Alt key to the Save Custom Camera when THEY know very well that it's much better to just use the Right+Ctrl+Num key? Apparently, either they don't care or they don't use their brain. I'm also very angry that they have not provide us with a well written detailed manual that we are all entitled to when we purchased MSFS2020.

Exactly what I'm looking for! However, after editing the camera CFG and updating to the latest SDK (for the first time entering Dev Mode), the Aircraft Selector mode is greyed out. In fact, all under Windows greyed out save for Console. Is there something else for initial setup in dev mode needed?
