Totally agree! Positive without being ridiculously loud, cheery and "dudey" like many younger KZbinrs. Good tempo, it shows he's worked professionally with education. One of my new favourites now when I'm getting closer of getting my hands on a 3D printer (at last!) 👍

Rather than spend $10 a month on Boxy, I'd recommend going to inkscape.org and downloading Inkscape for free. It's a really powerful vector graphics editor that's free and open source... 😉 There's also plenty of excellent KZbin tutorials on how to use it, but for simple jobs like this, it's pretty self-explanatory.

Boxy is only $10 total if you purchase the desktop version. I find it much easier to use.

Hi Dr. Vax! Love your videos! I have been trying to print out my cookie cutters on a (cheap little) NantFun 3D printer and it continues to print on the top left and will not go to the center to print. The prints that came with the printer will print in the center but none that I have made. I have tried to hand manipulate the nozzle to no avail! Any Suggestions? Thank You! 😊 keep 'em coming!

I am not familiar with that 3d printer. But the folks at the MakeWithTech user forum might be able to help. A great place to discuss this is at the MakeWithTech forum located at forum.makewithtech.com. At the free MakeWithTech forum/discussion group, you can also post images and examples of your work.

Hello, I want cookie cutter dishwasher safe do you recommend PETG filament ?
@MakeWithTech
@MakeWithTech 3 жыл бұрын
Petg has a glass transition point, when it starts to get soft of about 190f. So depending on you dish washer and hot water settings this may work.

If the idea is that you get a cookie in the shape of an apple, you won't get the stem. Should you not, instead of going inside the profile, gone outside? The way you've done it, will give apple shaped holes, but not apple shaped pieces.
@MakeWithTech
@MakeWithTech 4 жыл бұрын
Yep. Correct. Good catch. The inset command requires a minimum space of 3 units to work. The stem was too narrow.

One item to note: many woods act as a natural anti-bacterial agent (scientifically proven that after 24hrs bacteria has generally been completely destroyed - unlike "plastic" utensils/breadboards). So the comparison at this point in the video needs to be tempered by that fact i.e. thorough washing of wooden utensils may well not be comparable to the washing you might need to apply to PLA utensils i.e. I don't think it is valid to say "because my method of washing wooden utensils works, therefore the same regime applied to PLA will be just as valid" - because of woods natural anti-bacterial properties any bacteria "missed" by the washing methodology could be "masked" by the properties of the wood itself - which is not true of PLA.

Make sure you use a non-brass nozzle (steel, stainless steel, or ruby) unless you are making your own nozzles out of lead-free brass. You are not going to know what type of brass you are buying without the seller showing you a material certification or a chemical analysis.
@MakeWithTech
@MakeWithTech 4 жыл бұрын
Good tip! But with cold dough and a cold cutter is this a real problem? I am not an expert and I will defer to your suggestion but it seems a bit of a stretch to me.
@DAsian23
@DAsian23 4 жыл бұрын
@@MakeWithTech Using a brass nozzle is probably not a major issue but why risk it? A steel nozzle is only a couple dollars more and you can sleep easier knowing you have one less thing to worry about. What most people don't understand about toxicology studies is they tend to focus on how much of X compound it will take to kill you or have any lasting effects. There are limited studies on the long-term effects of the body obtaining microdoseage of toxic elements over a life-span.
