#Photoshop - learn to make diagonal line and herringbone patterns
@barefacedquestions6 жыл бұрын
Oh very cool. I didn't know that the 2nd pattern is called houndstooth so I couldn't even google it :). Going off on a tangent, I have a question regarding pattern tile. I see that pattern tiles are for sale everywhere and they are in jpg or png format, but what am I supposed to do with them? Use it as a pattern fill in Photoshop? But then that would mean that prospect buyers for those pattern tiles are either designers or seasoned amateur. That's probably why everyone automatically knows what to do with a pattern tile without an explanation :).

Trang, a lot of people will buy patterns to use for various things. You are right, they have to know how they could use them to fill a shape or a document. Other people sell images where a pattern has already been made to fill that image - for example people selling scrapbook papers on Etsy where the document is created to be 12 x 12 inches and filled with the pattern already. I hope this helps? Let me know if you have more questions?

Thanks Helen. That makes sense. But usually how large is a pattern tile? A patter tile's size depends on the art inside and how they are laid out, but If it is to be filled on 12x12'' paper, then should the tile be a subdivision of that dimension i.e 2x2'' square or 1x3'' rectangle? And does the pattern making function in Photoshop more limited that Illustrator? I feel comfortable with making and customizing patterns in Illustrator, but I feel like starting from scratch in Photoshop :(.

herringbone is not the same as houndstooth... this is a houndstooth tutorial, not a herringbone tutorial :(

+Allison Spalter OMG Allison you are, of course, very right. Mea culpa - thank you for pointing this out. I totally should have known better. I have changed the descriptions for this video. Now I will go and make a herringbone tutorial for you to make up for the inconvenience and to say thank you for taking the time to comment.
