Yeah, I apologize for that. The majority of the users in my community are PC users so it gets tricky. Maybe a should make a "Mac only" video or two. They'll tank but it might be worth it for the people who use Mac or both (like me)

I will also make my own videos for DR for people without any experience, but I will need to do both shortcuts to cover all the bases imo. I am not an expert only been learning this for the past two years, but I want to pass on the mistakes I made on the way to becoming a video editor. Been watching a lot of your videos, really love that I am not a rock star. That was the best! Keeping them coming!

How do I can insert a 1080 x 1080 timeline inside a 1080 x 1920 timeline? I' need to make a custom frame for several vdeos. I'm trying but it always fills the 1920 timeline with the crop content of the 1080 timeline. Does some body got success on such a thing?

You can’t insert a timeline inside of a timeline. Your project aspect ratio is always a fixed numeric value. You’ll always end up with either a crop or the more familiar “black borders” we often see with cinematic aspect ratios

Hi So I have this client that wants one whole timeline to be two different aspect ratios for the first 25 minutes 16:9 then the last 10-15 minutes 4:3 but he wants it to be exported as one whole video, is this even possible?

A video file has exactly one aspect ratio. Now, you could switch the cropping of a video to have it feel like it’s gone from one aspect ratio to another, but in terms of playback, it will always default to the confines of that main aspect ratio, and you’ll just end up with black bars, filling in the rest

Not sure why you wouldn't just want to change the frame rate and aspect ratio in the initial project if you have it set wrong...? In either case, it you make another timeline the way I showed, the original timeline project settings remain unaffected.

Place you playhead anywhere in your timeline and hit “i” on your keyboard. That will set the in point. Hit the “o” key to set the out

Hi Daniel. Thanks, but I just tried this and end up with a new timeline that looks nothing at all like the original. What I am trying to do... I have a completed project with multiple video and audio tracks. Project was set up as a 2:1 aspect ration, but will be rendered out in 16X9, giving me a black band on top and bottom. I now wish to add the subtitles in the bottom black band, but as soon as I change the timeline resolution from 4096X2048 to 4096X2304, all of the clips are resized, which messes everything up. Export your original project at 4096x2048. Create a new project, set the project settings aspect ratio for 4096x2304. Import the completed, rendered (exported) video from the first project. You’ll have your black bands

I just tried this and i've noticed that when i set the in and out points for part of my timeline and create the new timeline it's not the same. its taking clips from all over the project. I opened another project and same thing happens. strange

If you haven't already found a fix, I found a workaround with similar results. Just right click the Timeline on your media pool, Duplicate Timeline, then on the new one right click it, go up to Timeline settings and set your aspect ratio there, and then just cut your video down to size.

HELP - - DANIEL - I have the free version of Davinci with an updated Laptop computer and I can't seem to get this to work... I am trying to render shorts and cant seem to get the output media file to go up to youtube as a verticle video. Have you or anyone heard of a problem with either the project settings on davinci not working for free versions or any problems with uploading Edited content from your mobile device recently. i have wanted to upload shorts and do it on my cell so i can choose the thumbnail image, and properly set up the shorts, but now I don't know if the problem is Davinci, or KZbin. Make sure you have both the Project setting set to 9:16 aspect ratio as well as your footage AND your export settings. Also, video must be under 60 seconds. I also wouldn't recommend uploading directly to KZbin. Export locally first and then you can send the video over to your mobile device or upload to KZbin using YT's upload features. That way you always have a copy of the final mix.

I would recommend upgrading your system. I personally suggest at least 32 GB of RAM for higher level edits. Here is a better link to not just the minimum system requirements (which are never enough for good performance) and it also includes RECOMMENDED system specs.
