i just went through all your videos! i learn so much how all the pro make their sounds. thank you. i also appreciate that you don't go too crazy with the third-party plugins like many channels out there, so viewers can work with your sample project easier. man this channel is a gem! bro do 'the blaze' next!

Thanks man, glad to hear it can help you out. There's so much you can do with everything that already comes with FL Studio. It's always more important to learn every capability of a few VST's then unnecessarily spend money on a hundred other plugins. Would love to do The Blaze when I get some more time... unfortunately not looking likely for the foreseeable future but stay tuned : )

The result is superb! If this would have slipped in my Max Cooper's playlist, I would not even have noticed it. From my perspective though, I hoped that you would explain more on what actually makes Max Cooper or the music of this sort sound like it. In your intro you said that you will focus more on the percussive element, but I saw only a few mentions of what are the approaches in making the drums sound like they do, what should I aim for in my mixing, etc. I was really hoping you would help me understand how to make my drums sound minimalistic and as tight as yours. What I saw and heard in the video was more of an explanation on what steps you took to make this song and not so much of an instruction of how to make a minimalistic/melodic techno project like this or Max Cooper's. All criticism aside, that's a wonderful track you've made and if there would be an option for me to add it to my playlists, I definitely would. I must also mention that I really appreciate you using free plugins and samples, and it was great to see you using some of the ones I've touched lately. Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback man. As for a response to missing out what I understand was a lacking explanation of the essence of this kind of music I'll say this. Usually when I fail to mention or explain something it's because I either forget or I don't know. In this case I'm afraid I don't actually know.. One of the problems with being self-taught is that sometimes it can be very difficult to explain certain things because of a lack of understanding. Aside for explaining how I made each sound there's not a whole lot I can say about understanding this genre as a whole. It's good to have a understanding of how sounds are made but the creative part must always come from you're own intuition and whatever feels right to you. That's not something anyone can explain. If you were after more of a practical explanation of the title I'll just say to me that Techno to me is just a genre where the elements slowly build up over time (new drum parts coming in, pads opening up with LP filters) and that kind of thing. Minimal just means there's less going on in there then your typical techno track (kicks are always on the softer side). Melodic of course means the chords change. And in regard to the drums sounds and mixing that just comes naturally with practise. It definitely helps to space things out in the mix either with stereo image of frequency but also using samples which have a very bright tone. It's actually hard to layer up sounds in the higher frequencies and make it sound muddy because of the nature of our ears. Not sure if any of that rambling was of any use to you all, hope so. Anywayngood luck!

You really nailed the synths here, amazing job, the percussion felt a bit too straight forward compared to most Max Cooper records but everything else is top notch, great work man :)
@BrendanPark073 жыл бұрын
Thank you man! : ) For the percussion I would agree. The methods I used were more hacky and simplistic given the example but nevertheless definitely worth while exploring and experimenting with. I've seen from screenshots from Max's projects and from what I can gather his approach seems to be incredibly methodical and calculated, as if every sound has been meticulously arranged and mixed individually. This approach is out with my pay grade so I decided to go the easier and more beginner friendly route haha

when you create this kind of tune, what do you work first? (Rhythm vs Chords). the other question is when you create Arpegiator, do you specifically have certain strategy to create pattern? or lucky random?
@BrendanPark07 Жыл бұрын
*message copied from another reply* 90% of the time I would say it starts with the chord progression. For this example however I think I started with the drums as that's where most of the 'Burial' sound comes from in this track. I may have had a real basic chord progression playing in the background with the bass or something but that would have been more for context and something I went back to later. For all my own tracks though I usually begin with a chord progression usually from guitar as it's the only instrument I can play. If not guitar then I'll just pop some notes in using a soft pad sound and work it out from there. For the arpeggiators I'll usually put in a few semi-random notes until a very basic melody sounds good then experiment and add to it from there. Sometimes it's luck but most of the time once I have a basic melody down I'll know what notes will naturally come next. Mostly it's just going off intuition and what sounds good to me

Cool but Man, now I know why I use hardware synths. This is too complex for my tastes. I just like twisting knobs and mute/unmuteing tracks. 🙂
