As someone who easily gets overwhelmed by the usual info dump in tutorials, the silent moments between your tips/explanations really helped give me time to take in and solidify the process in my head lol. Not sure if that was intentional, but its definitely appreciated!

love coat. it does amazing pbr painting as well. so 2 for 1 there. also its vox sculpting is the best of its kind on market. also its uv and retopo is easy compared to other methods to use. and heres a pro tip if your vox sculpting some of the edges get smoother when you convert to surface mode so dont stress that so much when your voxing out. thanks for making this i want more paint room tuts. that area needs more tuts.

I loved this video all the way through! Narration was nice and simple, loved watching the process! Made me consider even getting this program! The only thing that was jarring for my eyes was the masking portion. But that's not your fault, I wonder if it's a way to change how masking looks in the program? Otherwise that can be a deal breaker for me.

If you don't mind me asking, is 3Dcoat an industry-standard app for handpainting? I noticed some blizzard artists mentioning using it, but I don't know if it's a personal preference of an artist or if that's what they also use in professional environment. Thank you You've answered it in the intro... Sorry! Commented before watching the video.

Lol no worries Allie! It is the industry standard and the main tool used to paint textures on WoW! Programs like painter are getting better for hand painting but nothing beats how responsive painting is in 3dcoat

Did you also work with the projection option? I like to use my photoshop brushes and rarely draw inside 3DCoat, you think this might the wrong way of doing things?
@hartgameart
@hartgameart Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! That's a great way to work IMO. Sometimes you cant quite get the angle you want in 3dcoat or you have brushes or even just prefer to work in photoshop. Maybe I will try to incorporate that into a future video!

@@hartgameart Awesome! May I ask you one more thing? I often times notice that, once you use projection, that the resolution in 3dcoat after updating is very low.. even though I set the projection scale to 300 percent... you may know what this causes?

Hmm it's hard to know exactly what's going on but maybe it's your brush alpha. Try going to windows>panels>brushes and choosing a different alpha It could also be your stroke. there is a little stroke icon just above the top left color palette. One of them is just a solid no pressure stroke. It's possible you might of toggled to it

When focusing on handpainting the actual feeling of painting is still superior in 3dCoat. The brush engine in Painter is catching up but I think most will agree the feeling of hand painting is just better still in 3dcoat.

Why not polypaint ?
@erichart8213
@erichart8213 2 жыл бұрын
Couple things come to mind. I find polypainting great for albedo style textures where I don't need a lot of precision but but when I really want something painterly I find I'm fighting with polypaint. The other major issue is polypaint requires even distribution of polygons for a uniform texture and in the case of handpainting you're often working on highly optimized assets. Of course you could subdivide it but I think at the end of the day zbrush is a bit too clunky for handpainting.

That's fair. I'll be more mindful of pointing out hotkeys in the future. There isn't anything too fancy going on here. Mainly just using "V" to sample the color my cursor is over. You can also mouse over any tool in 3dcoat and a tooltip will let you know the hotkey!
