@sebastianzander874 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you just use the Divide operation on your original circle at 4:36 with the help of two compound lines going through the vertical and horizontal centers of the circle? You would have saved on copy+paste+rotate+align for each quadrant - except for the rotate part of the last quadrant :)
@nicolatranchino6554 жыл бұрын
can you explain please?
@sebastianzander874 жыл бұрын
@@nicolatranchino655 You create two lines, one going through the vertical center of the shape you want to divide and the other going through the horizontal center. They ideally should overlap the shape. Then you select both lines and create a compound path of them (press Ctrl+8 on Windows), make sure they are in front of the shape. Select both the shape (if multiple single shapes create a compound path as well) and the two crossing lines and choose Divide from the Pathfinder window. In the more recent versions of Illustrator you have to click the 3-dot button to expand the menu to see all ten Pathfinder operations. After that you have to un-group the product of the Divide operation and maybe delete possible in-between shapes. The Divide operation somehow creates shapes for the areas that were previously empty. That is the only drawback in my opinion. It is similar to the Shape Builder tool in that regard.

Hey, just to let you know, in illustrator you can give simple math equations for sizes. So when you have a 300 sized circle, and want to add 400 you can just write 300+400 and it'll make it 700. You should mention it in a tutorial because it can be really helpful. EDIT: Don't forget, you can also multiply: 400*3 -> 1200 and divide 300/6 -> 50

Outlining the stroke changes it from a stroke to a simplified object that's easier to work with. Compounding the path makes all of the individual parts function as if they're a unit, making it easier to slice and alter them.

Hi question 👋 I have exported my file but noticed that theres white lines in between the pattern, can you please help me resolve this. Great work btw, super thanks!
@DesignMadeSimple3 жыл бұрын
This is an unfortunate effect of working with vectors. A good workaround for this would be to duplicate the pattern several times (copy and paste) to stack them on top of each other. That usually helps get rid of those seems.

I start with changing the rings to the color I want but once I do Object > Path > Outline Stroke + Object > Compound Path > Make it changes them all to the same color. What's the trick? Thanks in advance for the help!

It is a beautiful and classic pattern. Thanks for sharing. I have one question. When you get a single tile and duplicate them via "create pattern", there is always a line between each tile. Is it common? Is there a way to remove it pls? Cheers.

Excellent tutorial, thanks for including all the keyboard shortcuts, they really help to speed things up. One of the shortcuts doesn't seem to work well though (holding the control key down continuously to reveal and drag anchor points). I have to release the control key or else it only moves the single anchor point that I've clicked on, perhaps Adobe made changes in the current version of Illustrator?

How do you create a pattern that can be made into a swatch that contains overlapping artwork with gradients. Illustrator keeps altering/destroying my artwork when I try to crop it and add it to the swatches palette.

Love this idea as I'm learning to create patterns for fabric. I do have a question though what if I wanted to change the color on one of the designs or circles to give it a different look? How would I do that because you changed the red to black and I want to maybe keep that color or some other color.
