First time I've ever had someone explain just how the pen tool is supposed to function - as a hobbyist who doesn't get much time to play, I learned more in these 8 minutes than I have in a long while.

Hey Nick, I am thinking about joining your master class, Affinity Designer is my app of choice (iPad version) , BUT I also have Adobe Illustrator for the iPad.. SO questions are, does the master class (for either software) cover the computer or app version? I know they can do the same for the most part, but the UI is different, so does the master course easy for those of us who use the iPad version?? Also if a person wants both courses is there a different cost for both??

it's a real shame this cannot be done as a vector, I almost got it, but the "text effects" are done as percentages of 180* not as degrees themselves, else it's almost possible to use warp + degrees to do this. pnging this is just ... sad. :/

Loving your tutorials on Affinity. Learned a few things I didn’t know icons tag made no sense now I use them! I am on the latest iOS app in a iPad Pro 2024. I wonder, you use the fx feature in affinity a lot, how have you solved the export issue with this affinity specific feature, that doesn’t export to pdf or svg or eps or anything useful! I’ve been talking with affinity and basically the solution of pixelated or blurred images was not to use ANY FX FULL STOP. which is sad considering the usefulness of it. Now before anyone says but it works for me, I’ve also used it all the time with zero issue, but I was working on images graphics LOADS larger than needed and saved as png and I’m guessing because they were miles larger than needed that when sized down they work fine. I came across the issue when making a twist on a “digital planner” which is designed at the pixel count of a iPad so it’s like 2224 x 1668pixels at 300dpi (ish as I can’t remember the exact count lol)m I designed the master slides in affinity designer and exported the image and that’s when the issue became a nightmare, couldn’t export to pdf it was like looking at a blurred photo or pixelation to just plain awful yet onscreen perfect, tree svg, same, png even worse. Jpg unuseable and so it went on. Affinity told me it was the fx as it’s only compatible with affinity not exporting as anything else 😳 that stunned me. They were right removed every fx and recreated the effect by outlining text direct or layering text, or objects, but shadows still a problem. I ended up duplicating the layer for the shadow and then on the back layer removing the fill in the fx menu and then applying a shadow with a very small spread so it didn’t cover anything “needed” by doing this the top layer remained perfect as. The layer blew blurred and was bad but as a shadow it didn’t matter it looked meant as long as there was nothing below it that needed to be good it worked. Not ideal but I was fed up with months of failed work! It now exports as svg and pdf. Just thave to really watch the settings remove jpg compression and use the (non separable) resample option (I can’t remember the name) and remove the layers etc, also remember on export affinity ALWAYS resamples even when at the right size. I’ve not found a way around this. Though I have found if I create an image MASSIVE compare to what is needed and then copy its layer into affinity designer, and don’t place it in there. It works. Keeping everything vector works too. But it is a massive mine field with no map. So I’m curious now do you work around this issue? It would be nice to see the image your creat in tutorials exported and the settings used as I’ve found what you can create may look great but getting it exported is a nightmare. 😊

This tutorial is amazing for me not because I use Affinity photo but because I use Photoshop and had no idea I could use G-Mic on my photoshop. I thought it was just for gimp.

You can also just Do File > Personas and then just click 'fill' with whatever color you want instead of creating artboards or doing extra steps.
