Hey @NetworkChuck, can you do a whole episode on network anonymity? You have a lot of videos where you mention settings you're using, or encouraging users to use to maintain anonymity, reduce tracing ability, etc., but they are usually asides to the main focal point of the video. So, what does a VPN actually accomplish, NAT, a virtual machine, etc. I think this would be a cool topic, and something personally I can't get a grasp on from bits and pieces here and there.
@Derbauer2 жыл бұрын
Yeah he does dance around those topics but he is capable of much more explaining in his own way on maintenance of a respectable level of privacy online.

I literally am looking for the exact same answers as you are! Wondering if a virtual machine on my laptop is as safe as creating a virtual machine in the cloud. Should I be using a VPN on the virtual machine and my laptop? Just so many questions
@dwaynebutcher69272 жыл бұрын
@@Vaseholly You should still be using a VPN on the VM if your host machine is not connected to a VPN. The VM is still using the NIC in your main PC so the MAC address at the very least is identifiable information. If you're already connecting your main machine to a VPN tunnel then the traffic that is routing out of your VM would already be encrypted due to the nature of your connection.
@Optable Жыл бұрын
@@Vaseholly Here you go: -Get virtualbox -Get whonix (if you have enough RAM, usually takes up about 6gb, so 8gb of total ram is going to take up the bulk of your processing -If you are good, you are now running what is essentially two virtual machines, while also being able to switch between your normal host and virtual host simultaneously. Whonix routes all normal traffic through the tor network, so you can go on any site with it -Basically, it is kind of like TAILS, without booting it on a USB, or the OS completely wiping itself every time you exit. TAILS is obviously safer, but for everyday browsing it's not exactly ideal. whonix solves this problem

Thanks for the video Chuck and Cameron, this seems like a rather interesting tool. The thing that I have noticed is that there are some inaccuracies regarding Linux portion of the video. Firstly you have created SWAP file not a partition, small difference but still. `chmod` sets permissions for file, in this s case 600, meaning read and write rights for the owner but none for the group or others. Also, I may understand why you used `sudo` is the install command but obviously this is absolutely redundant while using root account.

Chuck: I ran a top brand design firm. My core business was blown out and IP stolen by a lobbyist because I did not know nearly enough about networking. I'm learning and working toward getting my CCNA. [ Your channel has helped me considerably. well done! ] That being said I have an intruder. I set up a SEIM it looks like someone changed the SSH defaults at Apple after making computer purchases. They have GUI or remote access, they can alter system settings. My guess is a VNC or a custom MDM with the Profile commented out. These are seasoned hackers and I'm just learning.
