One thing I love doing with napkins, tissue paper, tracing paper, etc is to make "faux glassine" or "fabric paper". 1. Decorate: I will stamp, water color, splash, drop ink, draw, stencil w/acrylic paint, and everything else to the fragile papers. Usually this is done over time and I just keep a collection till I'm ready to complete them. 2. Varnish: I gather up my collection of acrylic varnishes. Usually this includes liquitex brush on varnish in gloss and matte. A couple different spray on varnishes if the weather is good. You can also use mod podge, or just a watered down white glue. All yield different results. I lay out my napkins/paper onto a clean non stick surface and carefully brush on the varnish to one side. When dry, you can peel it up and flip it over to determine if you want to coat the backside of the paper. The more coats added the sturdier it becomes. 3. Other Methods: There are alternatives you can use if varnish isn't your cup of tea. Examples: Wax paper. Candles or tea lights. Plastic Saran wrap. Great video!

Love these ideas! I've also tried varnish on tracing paper and it turned the paper completely see-through, it was a bit wrinkly but it was very pretty. I think if you painted a picture on the tracing paper in varnish it would leave a beautiful transparent image behind on the frosted tracing paper. I'm not sure what I would use it for but I liked the look a lot. I'm famous for just experimenting with paper and coming up with beautiful accidents and then not knowing how to apply it to anything useful as I don't really journal and have no time to indulge in crafting as much as I used to. But I keep them all in a box and take them out once in a while to admire😂

I do the same thing! Sewing templates are also quite beautiful this way as well. It’s fantastic!

I have found that when trying to cut something delicate, it's better to sink the blade in the middle and pull toward the edge. Hope this tip helps someone. Thanks for your beautiful work & inspiration! ❤

I tried this with tracing paper for JJJ24, but love the almost transparent look with tissue paper! I know what I'll be playing with this afternoon!

I use tissue paper in turning fabric into book paper for covering journals. I use a product called Heat-n-Bond (or Wonder-Under is another option) to fuse tissue paper to the back of my fabric. It makes the fabric really easy to use, and keeps glue from seeping through. Nice results on your washi! I like the white details.

@@tammyzitzmann1646 I think I've seen Natasa from Treasure Books and SeaLemon do this, too! Love how crafty minds think alike!

Beautiful. Stamping on tissue and then using gel medium to adhere it to the page works well as does gel printing.

Hello Meg. I think tissue paper will sort of melt into your background nicely. I tea dyed book pages on top of waxed paper and the waxed paper got dyed too. I wrinkled it up and when it dried it is one of my favourite things to use. I am a beginner and love your idea of homemade washi tape. Yours is beautiful.

Very cool project. I print on tissue paper and that was a game changer for me. I also melt the wax pellets on it for an amazing texture, not so much for the transparent use of the tissue paper but for the awesome effect. And the only other thing is the napkins. But I’m sure there’s a million ways to use it. One that is popular is one of the Roxy challenges when she made strips similar to what you did and I believe you did one too. 😊 have a blessed night and TFS.

These are so pretty. I was wondering if you had ever tried a darker thicker coffee. Like espresso, maybe? I went to a Vietnamese restaurant and had some of their coffee. It was so wonderful. They put condensed milk in it. I want to try to find some without the milk and try it. lol. I don’t even like the flavor of coffee. I recently went on a rub on kick. I ordered so many different kinds. You give me so many cool ideas. 💕💕💕🎄🎄🎄

I thought your strips came out just beautiful. I do love the way the tissue paper just blends into the background, almost disappearing. I bought a huge pack of tracing paper and I think it's going to last a lifetime, so I too would be interested in any tips people may have! TFS :)

not sure if anyone else suggested it, i use a diluted white glue and dye solution to dye the tissue papers. the glue makes it a lil stronger and gives it a vellum esque quality. works well for making something vintage by gluing them on top of text or other images.

Have you ever found a thicker kind of white pen? I can’t remember who made it, but they came in different thicknesses. It was so wonderful at Christmastime. 💕💕💕. HA! I found it. They were made by Sakura. They have a BOLD TIP, number 10. They also come in medium, fine, and extra fine. I hope this helps some one. 💕💕💕

That paper might actually be tracing paper. At least in the states I’ve seen the tissue paper kind and also the thicker kind that’s more love a heavy vellum. Sometimes I’m not sure how to tell the difference. I’m glad your experimenting and sharing with us! I love to use tissue paper to mute backgrounds and it’s super fun to use on a gelli plate! These strips turned out soooo pretty!

The tracing paper I’ve used before has been a bit thicker (but not quite vellum), like a very translucent printer paper almost. At least I can try new project with it all haha!

I was worried it would tear when you lifted the rub on plastic off. Well done, Meg! They look amazing! Maybe ruffle some strips through the sewing machine? Make some envelopes? Your washi tape is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your technique with us. When i cut tissue paper, I grab several sheets, a ruler, and a rotary cutter. I lay several sheets of tissue paper together. Figure out how wide I want the strips. I place the ruler to the width needed and cut with the rotary cutter. It is a quick way to cut several strips at a time.
