Just want to say, this is still *the* most underrated foam building video. So many speedy and effective techniques compared to other foam crafters. I still come back to reference it every now and then. 💯

You're basically Bob Ross for terrain building at this point for me. The only thing else you'd need to do is occasionally say, "this building needs a little friend in front" as you stick a random plank or beam into a build, or mutter, "there's no mistakes, just happy accidents" as you pull too much from a building or rip out a 3D-printed part. I absolutely adore the aesthetic, and appreciate the simplicity in the fact that the buildings are ultimately constructed from just half a dozen or so basic structural ingredients (e.g., beams, straight planks, v-planks, bricks, thin wall sheets, shingles). Honest question for you though, as someone who has managed to make one of your simpler builds: how long would you say in total did it take you to cut up all the pieces needed to build those buildings? And then how long did it take you to assemble them? (Most just asking so I can prepare my partner for how many nights I'll be locking myself away in an office to make tiny ruined homes for little plastic men).

Haha, thank you! The title is definitely appreciated. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Regarding timing, I'm used to building these types of terrain pieces so it's quick for me. A couple 2-3 hour sessions is usually how long it takes for one building. I usually never make something in one sitting since certain parts need to dry fully before moving on. Because this video had 7 buildings, the amount of pieces needed was much larger. The builds were done over a couple of weeks.

It would be awesome to know what size you typically make your walls. Height most importantly. I made my first foam build and made the walls 3" and I found them a bit out of scale compared to 28-32mm scale.

The walls are 6cm tall (not including the floors) and 15 cm wide.

How quick drying is that glue?
@OkayHobbyTime Жыл бұрын
It has a decent amount of tackiness that allows me to continue working. To fully dry and turn clear, I'd say it takes about an hour.

Amazing looking pieces! Out of interest, how durable would you say they are? Would they fall apart if you dropped them off the table accidentally? I ask since you seem to forgo the coat of mod podge a lot of other tabletop crafters on KZbin use.
@OkayHobbyTime Жыл бұрын
Thanks! And they're surprisingly durable. The foam I use is quite dense and feels more like light plastic than foam. There's also a lot of spring to the material so these would bounce before falling apart. I'd love to do a durability test video one day.

I'm always surprised on how much you're able to achieve with just one material, do you ever add weights to the base? I'd fear they would move being such a lightweight material. I've just finished building some fantasy ruins from TTCombat and hoping to style them up soon, it's a long process!
@OkayHobbyTime Жыл бұрын
Nice, I've always wanted to try MDF terrain. Regarding weight, I've had no issues with these buildings toppling over or being too light. The foam is surprisingly dense and has some weight to it, especially once painted.
