Hi! I have never worked with metals before, and have a few questions. Every time i watch a Video of someone melting metal in like blacksmiths or steel-cooks (as we say in germany), the container that they use for melting always has a dark / black crust that seems rough and uneven. My Questions: Do any metals get stuck on the container sides when poured out, or does it not stick at all and pours completely? Because now i see your containers are clean and seem fresh. Or do you discard them after use?

Do you glaze dish with borax first? Do you use any acid to clean off contamination after you pour into ingot?
@LithicMetals Жыл бұрын
Definitely. If you don't glaze the dish, the gold will stick right to it. If there is glaze of the bar, I'd give it a bath in hot sulfuric acid. Otherwise, just water! 😁

Ok so I’m a complete newbie on pouring and stamping. All, and I mean ALL, I know about melting, pouring and stamping has been learned from watching videos on KZbin as part of a project I’m doing with my nephew. Question we have that I can’t find an answer to…is it better to stamp after your bar or coin has fully cooled or could you do it while it’s still warm? We are doing this as part of his 4th grade science project (there’s a $50 dollar gift card the local pizza and burger joint on the line here!). My thinking is when the metal is warm it would better receive the stamp. But I can’t really find a solid answer to that. Any help is appreciated.
@LithicMetals8 ай бұрын
Don't do it while it's hot. The metal is plenty soft enough to strike a mark while it's cold. Good luck on the project!
@WonderboyWDE8 ай бұрын
@@LithicMetals awesome and thank you! I’m following the master’s orders on this and we are doing a reverse stamp if you will. Engraving some steel so that it leaves a raised stamp on the final bars and coins. I only got “hired” for this because my sister doesn’t trust a 9 year old with MAPGAS and hot metal for some reason. Even though I tend to remember her welding farm equipment with Dad when she was about his age.
@tylertuttle212711 ай бұрын
Random question, but do you know if you have to register your logo on your bars? Thank you
@LithicMetals11 ай бұрын
It's always best to protect your mark, but there's no law to do so. You just want to make sure you aren't stepping on anyone else's trademarks before you use them.

@greedygringoprospecting6941 Жыл бұрын
how much borax do you use per 16 g bar.
@LithicMetals Жыл бұрын
Just a sprinkle to coat the dish so the gold doesn't stick. Other than that, there's not much need. 🙂
@greedygringoprospecting6941 Жыл бұрын
@@LithicMetals the borax refines gold half way decent. me california. be out this weekend. see if u can find some gold. wish i had my buddies luck. have a good day
@LithicMetals Жыл бұрын
@@greedygringoprospecting6941 actually borax doesn't really refine gold. It traps the oxides that form at the surface, and it can also prevent oxides from forming because it can create a barrier against oxygen exposure... but it doesn't remove the cause of the oxides. To do that, it has to be chemically refined. But with clean pure gold, like I was using here, there is no need for borax because there is no contamination. 🙂
@CuSTACKS Жыл бұрын
@@LithicMetals even though you used 999 Au and a small amount to glaze the dish do you need to drop the bar intoacid or some kind of solution to remove the borax contamination?
