I absolutely love those pour marks, it's like a finger print. You can safely say just like a finger print or stripes on a tiger that no two pour marks are the same. But the rustic style of the font for the stamping and human feel to your gold bars is mesmerising. I never ever get bored looking at what you do.

As a photographer from the early 70’s we kept any expired fixer solution from film processing. When we had amassed about one gallon we would add pure powders zinc to the liquid, stir well and we would have a precipitate of silver that would fall out to the bottom of the mix. We would decant the liquid to a second container and add additional zinc powder to it. Anything that precipitated out of solution we wold add to the previous precipitate. When dry we would send this off for processing into silver. Have you done any silver processing videos?

I enjoy your content. You do the right things the right way... But this video i would have done 2 things different if i was going for 999 cause i don't believe you can got it that high here. First thing. After adding sulfuric to precipitate any lead and filtering. I would dilute the solution by about 3 to 1 distilled water to solution. the silver thats present will be in the form of silver chloride which is essentially insoluble in water. So any thats there will get forced out of the solution. You gotta be really careful filtering out silver chloride its so fine sometimes it will pass right through filter paper. If thats your only option run all the solution through the same filter 4 or 5 times. What i prefer is a two part process take a big funnel.. jam some cotton balls into the neck. Dont compress too much but you want to moderately compress them. The add filter paper or coffee filters in the funnel like normal. The filter paper will catch any large chunks. The cotton filters via wicking the liquid through its fibers if you got it compressed enough it will catch everything in a single pass. Its not just silver copper chlorides have a lower solubility in water than hcl so you'll likely remove some copper as well. Then id reduce it to its original volume or a bit less. Adding smb like that is gonna contaminate your drop with salt and also it will bring copper out as well especially if used in excess. Since its not the smb but the sulfur dioxide that reduces the gold out of solution a sulfur dioxide generator made out of a filtration flask using the smb and hcl. You can bubble the gas cleanly to your solution. Either that or dont use smb at all and use a concentrated oxalic acid solution. If you go that rate both the oxalic acid solution and your gold solution gotta both be boiling. That'll make the prettiest cleanest drops you can get. Nothing wrong with your way... You may get 99 fine but any better than that will be tough. That thousandth of an ounce difference can be a bitch to get to especially so the smaller the size of the refine. Just my unsolicited 2¢.. you're channel is about the best on youtube. Thank you for what you do

I enjoyed your video and the process it took you to get there, as well as the clan pour, this was impressive. I do have one concern and maybe you can clarify, you marked the gold as .999% 24k purity of gold without taking an X-ray fluorescence test or any other composition test. That last 9 may not be important to many but it is deceiving to the few who buy gold in bulk. You also don't have the lab results of your claim of Certificate of Authenticity.
@LithicMetals
@LithicMetals Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the vid! Thanks for watching. My gold always tests at 4nines. When I started refining I was too insecure to claim 4nines and only guaranteed 3nines. Since then I just stuck with the .999 fine as part of Lithic's branding. I include a COA with every piece. I don't need a third party to verify my work. I am the "lab results". My reputation is based on my claim. If any of my work was ever tested by a customer or third party, and came back as less than my claim... it would ruin my reputation. This isn't a hobby, this is my business.

It wouldn't as the gold would shield the contaminants as it is already .999 pure. That shielding does not occur when the gold content drops below about 25%, which is why enquarting impure gold is such an important step when refining.

Im really curious what you charge for this? Cause thats alot of acids and stuff you're using for this. Not to mention your time and stuff. Also would really like to know where you get your acids. Nitric acid seems to be hard to get dor me.

Great Video! I wish those in the industry would start promoting OZT markings (troy ounce) as that is the true spot price measurement.

Those of us in the industry just think of a Troy Ounce as an "ounce". When I see OZ... I assume it's a troy ounce unless I'm baking, lol.

Can borax be used as flux for melting other metals like tin? I want to cast things of tin but worry about oxidation and losses.

I imagine it would work just fine. You have to do a small test! 😁

Just a learning question I have. Is it easier or are there better results by using the chemical method over using a collector metal and cupelling? Great video, thanks!👍😎👻🌶️

The only way to truly purify metals is chemically. 🙂

You must use an RO setup to produce your own distilled water? I can't imagine it'd be cost effective to buy this pre-bottled?
@LithicMetals
@LithicMetals 5 ай бұрын
It's $.99 a gallon here. It's more cost effective to purchase than to run the setup. For me anyway

@@LithicMetals That's actually incredibly good value - here it's around £1 or $1.32 a litre - 3.8 litres in a US gallon so a gallon here is like 5x as expensive!

Cool man. May I ask, what’s the width, height and depth of that mould to make a one ounce bar? I have some graphite and thought I might use a router to make one.

I've read comments that a reputable Gold House adds silver to a gold bar. Why would they do that?
@LithicMetals
@LithicMetals Жыл бұрын
They didn't. I assume it was a misunderstanding of sorts. If their gold was .9999, then it was .9999 as promised... a reputable house would never risk its good name.
