Creating a Shared Ethical Habitat for African Animals

Meerkats often have the "alpha" female of the group stand watch at the highest point in their territory to protect the colony. The "alpha" female keeps this watch for hours at a time. I would recommend building a high point from rocks or making a central mound with terrain tools to increase their comfort further. The point where they keep watch is usually 4ft to 8ft (120cm to 245cm) tall off the ground. Also, here are a few name suggestions for the new animals. They are traditional African names that are perfect for them. For the future, I would recommend putting a symbol such as + or * beside the names of animals you've renamed, as to avoid confusion or accidental renaming. I do it a lot in my games. *Meerkats* Female: Polelo, Banyana, Sennye, Maatla, Gobona, Dimapo, Emang, Hileni, Rauna, Helvi Male: Petere, Jakobe, Isago, Baboloki, Moremi, Mykel, Atang, Sakaria, Sakeus *Aardvarks* Female: Liani, Adowa, Sarette, Tilana, Yuusa, Tigaad, Yusur, Shoobo, Kacece (means small), Thokozani, Limbani, Kondwani Male: Hanru, Yaro, Pieter, Adem, Leeto, Digil, Sade, Dacar, Dalmar, Gari, Zikomo, Kamoyo, Chosani, Chifundo

Here’s an idea for the next ethical zoo episode make a multi species habitat for reticulated giraffes, plains zebras, Thompson’s gazelle’s, blue wildebeests, and African buffaloes, because I think they have interspecies bonuses 😃

I have an improvement idea for the reptile house and make it more ethical. to give them really the space of 3-4 exhibits, instead of building 2 fake ones around it you could put real ones in and then instead if crowding 6 animals into one you put like 2 per exhibit and manage this number. That way all boxes also look better connected and identical. Great series btw😌

the souvenir shop (and maybe toilets as well) would make sense at the entrance where you left a little space, next to the shared habitat of the emus etc., so the visitors can buy stuff when they leave (and go to the toilet when they arrive at the zoo)

I am so happy I was recommended your videos, I love Planet Zoo but its one of those games that gives me building anxiety with how many options and just things I can do in general that it sometimes freak out and have to put the game down. It is really nice to watch you build and explain your thoughts and how you sprinkle in some tips/tricks and do a little guide on how the game works and even take the time to spend looking at the animals. Your whole process is nice and relaxing to watch and it makes me feel less anxious about building a zoo and even gives me some confidence into making my own in more creative ways like you do, so thank you for the amazing videos. :D

I have some Meerkat names for you! If you ever watched Meerkat manor the main female for the longest time was 'Flower' so I think your female should be called that Other names for any can be Pip, Chipper, squeak, Pookie, Rocket Dog, Milo Also fun fact about meerkats - The little holes they build are called Bolt holes, They are the safe areas from predators for when they are out foraging

Another animal that starts with two a's is the Aardwolf! They are insectivorous and native to East and Southern Africa! They are in the family Hyaenidae :)

Hey there - I am enjoying your series atm bcs I found my way back to PZ :) Just wanted to let you know that when you're looking for enrichment items for a species you can just type in the species in the search bar and the game will suggest you the fitting items just like with the filter. It's way faster bcs you oftendon't even have to type in the whole species name. Thanks for the videos!

Maybe for the aardvarks you could swap the glass in the viewing area by their food to be one-way so the guests stress them out even less? Also if you wanted to add habitat viewing domes you could always put them more on the meerkat side and then have an area (either a building or just a sort of terrain wall) that's out of the sight line of the domes for the aardvarks to go behind

42:37 I've never seen solar panels to rotate with the sun, and the solar panels i have places are usually angled like that. One of the reasons for this is so that dirt (and snow in some causes) are less likely to stay on the panels, and can glide off easier

For that elevated land you can put a water trench around the base of the cliff, that way the animals will stay up there and if they did fall they would be ok =) I can't wait to see what you do! 😁

Could you add in/make some termite mounds for the aardvarks? In the wild aardvarks use their massive claws and very powerful arms to feed and if you're doing an ethical zoo you should allow them to engage in that behavior.

Probably a stupid question since A) it’s video game and B) it’s not out in the wild, it’s a zoo; but if meerkats have sentries to watch for predators, and they’re directly across the walkway from cheetahs, would that not mean they’d be raising the alarm every time they saw a cheetah walk past the aligning glass windows 30 feet away? i think itd be nice to see some insects and especially arachnids in this zoo, because even though some people are scared of them (i have bad arachnophobia actually!) they deserve ethical treatment too! bugs always seem to be popular with kids so maybe itd be a good way to teach them about insects? plus more exhibit animals seem like fun
