So, I used this method today. I did the first step with the white and the pearls, then with a still wet glove, I sprayed a little lagoon blue on my hand (very lightly), smashing it together with the epoxy on my glove and lightly rubbed it into the surface of my panel. It made very light marbled patterns. So gorgeous! I just know the customer is going to love it! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. Hi Rhonda! Hope all is well. Your tutorials are awesome to watch. I had a question. I know you do work on these boards and counter tops, but I was wanting to actually customize my haircutting clippers and trimmers. I was wondering, even though epoxy is self leveling, would I be able to apply it to uneven surfaces that are curved or even a cylindrical metal piece? Could I apply the epoxy with a brush and still get the fractures with spray paint and 91% alcohol? I really would like to achieve something similar to the dark granite look on my clippers/trimmers. I was trying to refer to your pumpkin video for guidance for uneven surface. Thanks in advance! Keep up the great work.
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 4 жыл бұрын
I would have to say that would be pretty difficult due to the fact it wants to self level. However I know many people do it on tumblers. I would research on KZbin and see if you could modify some of those techniques. 😊. Just search Epoxy Tumblers

Hi Rhonda! I have laminate countertops that just happen to have some texture in them. Very shallow little dips that look like puddles if you will. I’m talkin’ suuuuuper shallow...Will the epoxy be able to self level so I don’t end up with an uneven surface? Thanks for your time! This tutorial is awesome. Will be using your exact formula (hopefully).

Rhonda, really like the faint fault grain lines and the way your pieces are emulating more of the natural beauty of the real stones. This is more of the look that I'm going for in my walkin shower conversion. However, I'm still struggling with having to do this in the vertical position solely because of the size of the back facing wall and it being to large to fit through the door in 1 piece and having to Bondo over the seam where the 2 pieces will join together to hide the seam. Do you have a schedule of any of your upcoming class events posted anywhere that possibly after my trip out to CA on June 1st-6th where I'm helping a life long friend move back to TX (the 1 I'm converting this bathroom remodel for) that maybe she and I could drive down to attend? We're planning on redo all of the other countertops throughout the house also. Thanks Ted

Great finish! You’ve said that one bottle of white dye does about a gallon of art epoxy. Did you mix the white powder and the diamond dust with art epoxy, too? If the powder and dust are 50/50, how much epoxy do you mix with it? Or is it 50% powder and dust mixed with 50% epoxy? Also, if I’m using matte ultimate top coat do I still need a flood coat? I’m a little confused.
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. So I took the white dye and tinted the epoxy and I wanted it to still have some metallic undertones. I say about 50/50, but I just actually eyeball the mixture until I get the opacity where I want it. It’s not imperative that the mixture between the white dye and white mica be exact. Yes, you’ll want to do a flood coat foe added durability to your piece if it’s a high traffic piece. If not, and your color coat doesn’t have too many imperfections, you can go direct to the Ultimate Top Coat. I hope that made sense. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions. I’d be more than happy to talk with you.

Is the working time shorter with the Art Coat like it is with the Platinum? Or would you say it's similar to the regular Stone Coat? I plan on doing a very subtle design like this but I'd like to know I have plenty of working time, especially on my larger pieces.
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 3 жыл бұрын

@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
Everyone at Stonecoat is so amazing!! I just love them!! I guess that’s really not what I meant to say was 50-50. I actually just eyeball it. It really depends on how much of the sparkles or bling you want to be able to see. If you really want the diamond dust to stand out, you could load quite a bit into the white dye. If you want just a hint, then just put a small amount. I would not exceed 10% by volume into your mixture. I hope that made sense. How do you decide how much epoxy to mix up for each pour?

I measure the square footage. I use 3 oz per sq foot on most of my finishes. There are some techniques that do require more per square foot. 😊

I am doing this on an 8x5 ft kitchen island. I know how many Art Coat gallons but how do I know how much Mica powder and Diamond dust packets to use to get the exact same look. This is beautiful! I’m obsessed with your videos.

why didn't you chop it before adding the stone gray?
@RK3Designs

Most of the time if I use my hands, I seldom will chop. My hands produce less bubbles and I really like to feel the epoxy 😊

U can use acrylic colours if u want..

You'll want to be very careful using acrylic additives to epoxy. If you add too much it will cause the epoxy to gum up. I mostly use additives made for epoxy. Check out www.stonecoatcountertops.com They have many additives to choose from.

How much alumilite dye do you add? Ratio?

I sort of eyeball 😂. Depending on the opaqueness I’m looking for. For reference, 1 bottle of dye will tint a little over a gallon of epoxy.

Interesting technique. Nice job but it would help if you had an actual piece of Carrara (pronounced Car-rah-rah) marble in front of you to see how the real veins spread. They typically do not look like tree branches.
