38:22 Are you familiar with the "Transform Objects Separately" option (the button located right before "Convert to Curves")? Turning it on would save you a lot of time. It would allow you to resize the pairs simultaneously while preserving the offset. Turn it on then select each object in the pair (it will not work if you just select the group-select each object within the group separately; the transform box only appears around the object you selected first; this is normal when "Transform Objects Separately" is enabled; both objects * are * selected) and resize while holding Ctr+Alt+Shift.
@Tracey-CreatorCollage Жыл бұрын
@vveles thank you! I am, and use it a great deal. I don't find myself having to resize grouped motifs often, so I haven't used in that case. That is a great tip, thank you for sharing!
Awesome! I look forward to seeing you there @mwhite212!

Hi Tracey, this is a great tutorial, I went to subscribe to your personal channel. Just getting started with the Affinity Suite and am wondering if you have tutorial showing how you organized your workspace, how to create swatches and an assets library.
@Tracey-CreatorCollage Жыл бұрын
Thank you, @juliegalaise455! I don't have specific tutorials on those three however there are a ton of basics tutorials on Serif's Affinity Designer KZbin channel, including about assets and the color panel. The Quick Start guide on their website is fantastic as well. I have been asked to do a tutorial on how I organize my space so that's coming but, as of right now, I don't have one out there about my setup.

Amazing work! How can I change the color background outside the artboards to a dark gray?
@Tracey-CreatorCollage Жыл бұрын
Thank you @yukkidraws! You can change the background by going to Settings (both desktop and iPad) and then User Interface. You will see two options, one to change the overall background level and one to change the artboard background level.

Hello! This may sound like a strange question, but these are the things I worry about lol. When you create assets to use in various projects, what size should the assets be? For example, if I created a new file to draw an ornament, with the intention of saving the ornament as an asset, how do I size the file / ornament within the file, so that it will work in whatever file I drop it into? Especially if there are raster effects involved. Thank you!

I've lost my layers panel on the right of my software, how do I get it back? I can't see where to pin it in any of the menu's Thanks
@Tracey-CreatorCollage Жыл бұрын
Hello @hellssurprise9338! If you go to Window > Studio and choose Reset Studio, it should reset it back to whatever you had in place last. To pin a panel you don't have in there, you would drag it over to the side of the interface until you see it light up in blue. If you have nothing in place there now, hover towards the top, just under the top tool bar. Once you see a block light up in blue, you can release that panel and it should snap in place.

Tracey, the pattern tile and pattern preview are not working in Affinity Designer 2.5 is there anyway around this?
@mwhite212 Жыл бұрын
I regret to say the line/pressure technique is not working for me at all. When I expand stroke, it no longer resembles the shape I created with the stroke. I don't know if something happened during an update or whatever, but it looks like Affinity is automatically creating all the nodes as curved nodes.
@Tracey-CreatorCollage Жыл бұрын
@mwhite212, sometimes, expanding the stroke will create anomalies with the shape, depending on how the control points were set in the Pressure Grid. For example, if you have some nodes right on top of one another, and/or really close together, they can flip over one another. They can be adjusted, with the node tool once expanded but yes, there are times where you will get a really weird shape that you didn't necessarily intend. Most nodes on the expanded stroke will be smooth nodes, the exception being at the points where a butt cap was used and corners formed. Pressure Settings are definitely something I would recommend playing around with and trying different scenarios to see what you end up with; that way you know the limits.

@@Tracey-CreatorCollage Thanks for responding. I'm reasonably familiar with Affinity, and I was banging my head trying to see if I had some obscure setting fouled up that was causing it.

aww I thought the technique is available for Affinity Designer V1...
@Tracey-CreatorCollage Жыл бұрын
Hi @lanord14! While there are a handful of tools I use in this session that are specific to V2, the overall pattern process, and much of the shape building of the ornaments, can performed in V1 using Boolean Operations and the Transform Panel. With the pattern creation, the only thing that you wouldn't have available in V1 is the Move/Duplicate function; you would need to use the Transform Panel and manually duplicate the motifs.
@Lanord14 Жыл бұрын
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage thanks for the reply!! I will try to follow your tutorial here using the V1 and see if i can do it 💪

Affinity is more intuitive to use than Adobe and are not manipulating the economy with unethical trading and profiteering, Adobe following in the wake of Microsoft. Been using Affinity and despite the lack of photo-to-vector feature and an app for moving-video editing is more up-to-date. Adobe is old news.
