Environment for LGBTQ+ Participants

The mission of the Stanford Center for Clinical Research (SCCR) includes offering educational resources, training, and support for investigators and research staff. We have invited the Assistant Professor of Medicine, Dr. Mitchell Lunn, MD, to provide you with an overview the demographics
as well as social and health experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other sexual/gender minority people. You will learn techniques to create welcoming and affirming LGBTQ+ participant-centered clinical research environments.
At the conclusion of this class, you will be able to:
Integrate current LGBTQ+ terminology into patient conversations
Appreciate the importance of pronoun use in patient conversations
Ask correct questions about sexual orientation and gender identity with sensitivity
Create an affirming LGBTQ+ patient-centered practice with staff training, forms, and environmental changes, including symbols & signage

The SCCR Science Series is a 2-hour lecture held monthly or bi-monthly, covering various scientific and clinical topics with the specific aim to educate members of the clinical research community.
