Thank you, Haven. I have been designing clothing (including alphas) for several years in SL and did not know about working "locally!!" Thank you, thank you!!!! My life has changed!

Omg, I bought a really cool mesh hoodie, but guess what there was no alpha, in the package and none of the versions included fit me. On top of that no response from the creator. And then I find your video. Amazing simple. Thank you! Thank you!. You're the best.

This is so cool and great job in going slow so we could follow along and get all the steps right. Too many times the tutorials we see here the YouTubbers go so fast you can not follow how the process is done. I would like a video on how to link Gimp to Second Life so you can see the finished alpha like you did in this video, that would be nice

It is much easier to make your alpha layer in Blender. All you need is use your mesh clothing as a guide. Once you have you alpha and non alpha painted you save the texture and then edit it in PS or Gimp for the transparency.

Blender is a great place to make alpha layers, I even made a tutorial for it.. but, the lines you are making to outline your alpha layer are jagged because the mesh is in triangles, and that mean sometimes an triangle will cut too far into or out of the alpha section. and also people who buy clothing with bad alpha layers, cant go into blender to make one for it.

Haven Ditko I think I know what you mean because I used to have that problem painting in Blender. The problem is the terminology used to describe the finish you get from brush. There is a *smooth brush setting* that produces the jagged edges. You just have to play around with the brush settings to get right finish. There was a time when Blender would crash on me after messing with the brush settings.

Haven Ditko I will try and make a very short tutorial showing you how I do it in Blender.

Blender still does not help those that buy mesh, which needs to have a new alpha made for it, and this is one program, your working is directly between the two, no guessing , no going back and forth between programs, its see as you make workflow.

Wouldn't it be even faster to take the top's texture and layer that onto your material skin you made and then delete the texture where the top is leaving it transparent?
@nichenook1300
@nichenook1300 9 жыл бұрын
Well this way, you can use that skin over and over again. it save you the steps of making it for each alpha you work on. And then when you are done making the textures for the alpha, you only need to upload the image and apply them, cause now you already have your alpha layers made. Because after all, we are making an alpha layer and your gonna have to make one.
@nichenook1300
@nichenook1300 9 жыл бұрын
also, if you work on the skin and paint into or erase too much of the area, you no longer have the guide lines to help you, you covered over them or erased them. and there are a few other little reasons but i think these three reasons alone show you that doing it on the skin is not the way to go.
@Revelation21NINE
@Revelation21NINE 9 жыл бұрын
I wasn't saying do it on the skin but to put the clothing texture on and then just highlight the clothing texture and delete it to make the alpha. Your way sounds good also, just wondering if you've tried it using the clothing texture as a guide.
@nichenook1300
@nichenook1300 9 жыл бұрын
You did say on the material skin, and i don't know what this has to do with a clothing layer. Clothing is not what we want to have an alpha for , and the mesh uv layer does not match to the skin, only to the mesh clothing. This way you see what you are making, make it and done deal.
@Revelation21NINE
@Revelation21NINE 9 жыл бұрын
I was asking why use the material texture to create your alpha, instead of the clothing item's texture itself? Or the clothing shadow map where it has the clothing texture in it, then just alpha those parts of that texture that need to be invisible ...
