The new Plaits firmware also has an arpeggio model, which can also be fun because you can choose chords with the harmonic knob, and the ARP style with the morph knob. Both of which can be sequenced with CV.

wait what.. it does?? btw the new firmware has some crazy nice sounds. I am sure it will come to vcv (it is planned) for all to play and of course polyphony! the new filtered synth model is insanely nice, best filter i've heard in software in a while

Count Modula also has a signal multiplier called Signal Manifold that's handy as well. Although I love the minimalism of Bogaudio, oftentimes I prefer modules with more visual character so that it's easier for me to decipher previous patches.

13:21 there is an excellent module by Count Modula called "Slope Detector". This module detects movement in a CV and outputs four triggers. 1. when a CV raises; 2. when a CV falls; 3. when a CV moves either way; 4. when a CV remains steady. The detection sensitivity and trigger duration can be adjusted with the "slow/fast" switch and "response" knob. > In the case of the LFO generating the arpeggio, placing the Slope Detector after the quantizer means it sends a trigger as each of the notes of the selected scale in the quantizer change from one to the next. The (sometimes) draw back is that this usually generates unusual rhythm patterns unless a dominate chord or scale (evenly spaced notes) is selected in the quantizer.

Super nice video. Cool techniques covered including some mentions of hardware. Omri I wish you an awesome and successful new year. Lots of energy and health. Love your content and approach to sharing knowledge about music. Very real and very different from the rest. Your videos got me started in VCV some years ago and I've been on board and enjoying it ever since. Your mindmeld mixer setup from v1 made me rethink how to use vcv completely and just make it into a DAW that I like. Wish you the best and see you around!

Fabulous stuff man, cheers! Since getting into hardware, I've been experimenting with using the sum out from Maths to create some evolving arpeggios... I've just got a Wogglebug so that introduces some serious madness into the proceedings! Cheers again man and happy new year 👍

Whats the difference betwen the "latch" switch of the HH arpegiator and an external 1 at 4:10 ? I'm super new to all this but loving everything, specially your videos. Happy new year!

Happy new year :) The Latch function will work like thr sustain pedal of the piano so there's a need to activate and deactivate it with each chord but with the external one it will always arpeggiate the chords.

Dear Omri Cohen, what would you say should I start with as an equipment list, to fully have a simple but functional system. Recording, mixing, editing with maybe just VCV2.(Already dabbled just a bit, never touched electric music like this, although I am a musician so to speak, I sing and play guitar usually) Thanks in advance if you should answer me again!)
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Hi! I guess that the easiest would be to choose a DAW you're comfortable with and use the VCV VST version for building patches and recording them. Then you can mix and edit inside the DAW. If you just want to concentrate on VCV, you can use Reaper for example, which is very affordable. Something else that might help is a small Midi controller to play notes and let you control things, and a small audio interface.

@@OmriCohen-Music Hey! Thanks for answering me that swiftly! :) So i have vcv2 ,audacity (which isn't great), MIDI i Player over my keyboard atm. Audio Interface...hm have none. Thanks again! I added your playlist with learning about patching etc. With vcv and will try to follow your techno build. :)) greets and stay safe!

I'm surprised one of the most simple methods wasn't covered, and that's either adding or subtracting the CV out from two differently clocked sequences. (Synthkit modules seem to make this easy.) Maybe it's too simple in that it should be obvious, but I could see somebody skipping that idea and going to dedicated modules first. Also is there any processing difference between Venom Poly-clone and Bog Audio Poly-mult? (Practically identical although the B.A. one has a CV in for amount of channels.)
@Ephemeridian
@Ephemeridian Жыл бұрын
Is there a module to tell how many channels of polyphony is going through a cable? (if so, when you don't always have the same number of notes in a chord, you could use the polymult and cv the channel count so the entire chord is always included) I've run into wanting this on my own, but it seems like it'd be perfect here.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's the Viz module from VCV 🙂
@Ephemeridian
@Ephemeridian Жыл бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music I meant a way to get CV based on channel count in a polyphonic cable; Viz shows the count visually but as far as I can tell there's no output from it? I have a bad habit of overlooking critical aspects of a module so I might have just missed something though!
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
@@Ephemeridian Oh ok. Well, I experimented a bit and if you send a copy of the poly pitch you're using to the CHAN input of the PolyMult and turn the CHAN knob all the way to 16, it will follow the number of channels of the pitch so if there are 3 notes playing together, it will mult it to 3 channels, if 4 notes, then 4 channels, and so on :)

Are these polyphonic patch cables something they just made up for VCV, or are there actual modules that do something like that with TRS midi or I don’t know what? Reason I like VCV is for testing out ideas and using modules that approximate physical hardware so it seems out of place. EDIT: I commented too soon, saw you mention it doesn’t exist in hardware halfway through.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Yeah, polyphonic cables are availbale only in VCV, as far as I know. There's no polyphony in hardware with only one cable... You can have polyphony with Midi but not with CV.
