Creating Black Fur with Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Watercolour Pencils in realtime

Here you can see another video of me adding water to the Albrecht Durer base layer of an animal portrait. This time it is a black cat on Anthracite pastelmat.
This is the foundation layer of watercolour pencil where I use my technique of laying down light layers of the pigment to create the undertones of the fur. The detail, definition & fur texture will come from the many layers of dry pencil that get added in the next stage. For this one I am using the Albrecht Durers wet & then Polychromos for the dry layers.
Black fur forms part of an upcoming detailed tutorial that will be available as a downloadable step by step & I am creating these little videos as support to the downloadable material. This will also be the topic for my first workshops in the UK in Feb & March 2017.

Wow! This is amazing to watch! Can I ask if you put down a layer of black watercolour pencils as well as the other colors that I can see like the red and blue before you add the water? I look forward to being able to purchase your tutorial on black fur when it becomes available!

sally2uand2dogz Hi, yes, I lay down all the colours and tones including the black in this underlayer before adding water

In a previous tutorial you outlined the subject with a stylus. Why and do you always do that?

Hi Pat, I often use a stylus as a way of indenting the outline or other lines into my support. I use it either to draw out my piece without using a pencil or transfer paper or just to add texture lines to a piece. It depends on the subject & what medium am using usually

Kyomii No, but I do use pastel sometimes as a base for Colored pencils
