Great tecnique. Most English wheels will reach and remain free of the panel curvature to do this.

I'd like to know what gauge sheet metal you use for making panels? Same as the orig. of different? Thanks.

Always use the same at the original. Its the only way to weld it properly once its made. most old cars are 19g

In my experience working with metal in machining or fabrication for the last 25 years, gloves are never a good idea and always lead to hands being sucked into whatever equipment you are working with resulting in the loss of a hand. True this is only an english wheel but metal working 101 don't use gloves. The same rule applies even in woodworking when using power tools. It may seem counter intuitive but metal shavings and minor paper like cuts heal. Having your hand getting ripped off or mangled because your glove got hooked by and pulled into the tool do not. Another thing not to wear is your wedding ring or any other jewelry or hand/wrist items like a watch. If a ring for example gets caught it just rips your finger right off in the blink of an eye leaving you standing there with a fire hose in sync with your heart beat. Mike is absolutely following the rules by not wearing gloves. Don't take my word for it though look it up. You wont see a professional fabricator or machinist ever wearing or encouraging the use of gloves.

I understand, I work with a lathe and I don't use gloves. In this specific case where there is no relative speed, I would use them due to the cutting edges of the sheet. Greetings and thanks for sharing your experience.
