To the people that say, “wow this would be great with some actual information”, take a step back and realize that he’s being ambiguous on purpose. It’s really all about creating flow and removing elements purposefully. Like any good artist, he uses metaphors so you can apply it to yourself, whoever you are.

I think his videos are quite genius, especially compared to many other tutorials out there. He doesn't just say "use something that sounds like this", he always abstracts and gives you a way to think about what you're adding. Derek's love for books needs to carry over from childhood to adulthood, because otherwise the transition is too sudden - the song has a completely different personality if you don't carry over parts in transition. This man's method of explaining things is really engaging, funny, and the metaphors get you to actually think about what you're doing rather than following commands from an internet man.

Geeze, the transition between making Derek a human drummer boy, an iphone replaced boy, to a fully growing adult with hair, and self realizing himself in a good transition means he really is maturing in his adventures. It makes sense that beats in South Africa, or maybe around different parts of the world will set the tone for the remainder of Derek's life. All his lonely time became his "me" time. Brilliant consistency as always. Your intro caught me off guard, it made me laugh pretty hard. It actually reminds me a bit of Eric Andre with his randomness. My beats have been improving every new lesson that comes out. I'm gaining confidence as a producer, goodness! It helps, every time. Welp, time to go back to my basement! Thanks again.

After binge watching the entire Ysap playlist to this point, (about halfway so far) it was really great to share this experience with you. I thoroughly enjoyed your feedback on the submissions and I learned even more. I'm sorry didn't watch the previous livestreams, after watching this, I'll probably rewind watch previous shows. More importantly for me though, it was good to just see the more serious and more natural side of you. I've only been just mixing loops in a shitty phone app for a year and I'm convinced more than ever that the start of my journey into actual production, which is technically less than a month now, is on the right track. Other than teaching myself a little bit of theory to just scrape by, I've learned more from you in the last 18 hours than I have from other people that I've also recently discovered here on KZbin over the last three or four weeks. I really look forward to sticking with this community once I decide on a DAW package, get a beat pad (I'm a Drummer) and a MIDI keyboard. I can't wait to break free from my cell phone app and laptop in order to expand my hardware options and learn music on a much more serious production level. If this message hits your eyes, thanks for taking the time to read. I appreciate everything I've experienced so far.
