Finally I've found the CS2 content I've been looking for! I need inspiration for a real European-looking city and it seems like most people are doing more NA style cities.
@distancedАй бұрын
So glad to hear! The tools in the game are unfortunately biased towards americanized cities but I'm glad people are eager for European content too!

as someone who lives in the netherlands, how residential blocs are usually done is, you have A LOT, of low res residential row housing, then on the median roads or main roads you got bus stations, in these low res blocs you also usually got a elementary school somewhere in the middle, or a big open park with a highschool built on it. and as for mixed use, the stores are usually built at the main road, then behind the stores are low residential, this is one reason why we use bikes and our legs so much because in europe its the norm to have atleast 1,2 or even 3 and 4 supermarkets in the area that you can go to on foot with just a walk of a few minutes, no car needed, i think in planning its mandatory that every citizen has walkable access to the stores as this heavily reduces and in some cities even completely gets rid of short-range car drivers, ones that grab a car to go somewhere thats literally less than a 5 minute walk away, and its by making the route enjoyable to walk and safe. and well you might have heard of the netherlands being one big city which is entirely true, and i think it might be something that might interest you, the way it works is that public transport interconnects. a regional train that runs thru villages, towns and small cities, that connects lower priority raillines to the larger ones which are ran by intercity trains which head thru big cities, provincial capitals and the capital itself, big double deckers, because one thing the dutch know best, GOOD public transport reduces traffic, and thats something they did on the large scale to even get rid of those long-range car travellers that come from 2 hours away, to take the train instead. and its ultimately what allows old cities like amsterdam to continue to stay the same with their small roads. as without good public transport its likely all of them would be forced to look like new york or los angeles.

Another input from a german concerning the row houses, mixed use etc.: If you really want your city to be realistic, I think that you overdid it with mixed use a little. My experience is that facing major streets mixed use/commercial is very common, but in smaller side streets there is lots of residential row housing. Not just row housing, also definitely mixed use sprinkled in (on corners for example). What I mean is that you usually don't have entire blocks of mixed use, especially facing the back/side streets. But obviously your city doesn't have to be (perfectly) realistic or anything. Mixed use is just great in Cities :)

Mixed use from my travels in Europe is concentrated on main boulevards as it should be. Thinking of Spain as I spend most of my time there. Off the main streets it’s mainly residential.

Sadly he has to use mixed use cause it one of the only wall to wall buildings

You can create your own underground parking - it’s possible to use the custom park area asset from the „Extra Networks and Areas” underground. I created a normal road that goes underground and then I added custom parking below a few blocks. Its footprint above the ground is much smaller than the one you used.

Ive been doing this in areas since move it came out, not to the extent you have and very nicely done btw. My very 1st merge was 2 vanilla primary schools and then 3 of them, then i did a horseshoe with signature resi buildings to go on my older looking/hostorical campus, and a lot lot more since. it really does make a lot of difference for sure, havent got round to doing whole districts like this yet though. Well done for pushing through to completion. I know how time consuming it is.

Quite good looking results! Some criticism: The buildings are a bit too pulled back from the sidewalks and there's too much variation in building height. In Europe the buildings start immediately from the sidewalk and are uniformly *as tall as they can be legally made*. They don't as much fill their lots but "wrap around" them. It helps if one changes mindset from "what looks like European" to "how can I max out population density with buildings that are no more than 6 to 10 stories tall due to [insert onerous safety regulations on taller buildings/historical reasons aka no elevators before 19th century/daylight accessibility/NIMBYism]. Also while green spaces are nice, there are few "lawns" in big cities, because they interfere with population density. Apartment blocks have courtyards, which alleviates some need of parks along with boulevards lined by trees. Spanish cities are quintessential examples of this, and as a result they have the most elevators per capita in the world and achieve some of the highest population densities in the world at 30k to 50k/sqkm.

Depends, if the city is older there can be quite a lot of size variation (obviously doesn't work with these assets but you have to imagine they're historic). For the sidewalks, places like Berlin have similar widths and front gardens for apartment buildings aren't unheard of either.

It's looks very good and I like your Euro approach to build more pedestrian ways first and less parking lots 😄 By the way you can easily build a custom underground parking with a small entrance. Just make an underground tunnel using a small road it will be an entrance and connect invisible parking roads to it under the ground.

Really nice work there ! I pretty feel the same about the wall-to-wall aspect of the game. It is a big disappointment that they didn't implemented in the new game a system that would automatically fill the space between wall-to-wall buildings. Hope to see a game that do that one day !

Cool build, I like it. I am new to Cities but I really like detailling and building important parts of the city with Find It. I just don't like how you can't turn off the grid while placing the buildings -- it's just so distracting and the grey color of the grid just makes it a lot harder to decide which buildings look better before placing them. But still, it's a lot of fun. And as soon as you don't use perfectly rectangular blocks, placing them by hand becomes pretty much your only option, as the grid is just leaving random spaces in a perfectly buildable area. Anyways, good video :)

Great stuff, we need more C:S creators who make European designs. I just wish the game would be more european-friendly by default, instead of forcing square-ish and rectangular blocks everywhere.

Please Pin Me :) I recently built a European (German) city in Cities: Skylines 2, which is inspired by my hometown. The city features a central area with a main train station, surrounded by many shops, hotels, and larger buildings. There are also neighborhoods similar to those in Germany, often referred to as "Arbeiterviertel" (working-class districts), with block-like structures reminiscent of those in Russia, representing the city's poorer residents. Additionally, I included an old town area. Since I wanted to focus on both economy and enjoying the game, I approached the city-building process in a way that I believe everyone should try: build your city gradually. Let the AI place the buildings while you focus on establishing a stable economy. Later, you can redesign specific neighborhoods by placing buildings manually using the "Find It" mod. This way, your economy remains stable, and you always have something to do. In my earlier projects, I tried to make everything perfect from the start, which led to spending 5-6 hours on a single 500-inhabitant district. This approach often resulted in a weak economy. The gradual method I mentioned above-reworking different districts over time-has proven to be a better strategy. It allows you to create a realistic and organic European city. Feel free to comment below if you need more information about creating your first detailed city.

How do you avoid them becoming abandoned? I need to set correct zone type for them to not be abandoned, but you don't seem to have to do that. You don't even put them in a zone.
@MarcinKr32128 күн бұрын
Use the mod „Plop the growables”. It disables zone checks and allows to lock the level of a building, so if a building is on a level lower than 5, it won’t change.

It is so annyoing that CS2 did not implement a any real new features like procedural buildings for example. Imageine dragging out a plot just like in Manor Lords and the Buildings would just generate themselfs. This technology exists and would be perfect for a city builder like CS2. But instead they just gave us the same game, with the same mods missing from the base game, but just laggier
@distanced29 күн бұрын
Completely agree with you! Would really have set the game apart. Still hoping we'll get a mod for that someday...
