I agree wholeheartedly with you and others about the Payne's Gray with metallics. One thing I'd like to see in a video is for you to go back and review the steps by which you make some particularly wonderful piece like that one, and then repeat the same process as much as possible, while achieving as many different results as possible. For instance, substituting different colors, or different levels of contrast, or different-weight applications of paint for one of the steps. Maybe it's just me, but I like both open-ended play and focused refinement and exploration of a given technique I've discovered from that play. One benefit is that I can end up with a spectrum of thematically-related outcomes that I can use in other projects, regardless of which colors and other elements I end up working with for final art work. Also, over time, I feel I gain greater control of the medium by alternating between the playful and focused modes of making art. Only a suggestion, but I'd really love to see more of the type of paper you made with that Payne's Gray/metallic combination. It's quite lush!

It’s so much fun to just play on the Gelli plate and just let it happen. I was thinking that if you had another Gelli plate you could place nearby, you could “clean” off your roller on that instead of the paper.

Just me again .... Another great video ...my preference is always longer videos so yours have been right up my alley. And the mix of real time and sped up is great also. In regards to the envelopes I keep any that I get, and keep them intact and print and paint on them. Then put a group of them bound together in different ways. Or add them into other journals etc. But they make for like a little organizer or holder for all kinds of things ...like receipts , notes, coupons, collage bits and bobs whatever really .. and the windows ones are great for sure!! And my preeferd type . Thank again for making the video and sharing with all of us !!

Glad you enjoy the longer videos. The editing takes longer to do a mix of fast and slow, but I think it’s worth it! Lots of great ideas for the envelopes. I especially like the ones with windows. And now I want more junk mail… weird. 🙃 Thanks for your comments!

Enjoyed your video. Thank you! And I have subscribed to your channel. I work with jelly plates making background paper all the time and you never know what you might learn from somebody even though you think you've seen it all! Just wanted to share something with you that I learned from another artist. When you put your plate to bed it should never have a piece of paper on the surface as it draws the oils out of it and dries it out. I guess eventually it will stop performing as well as it should if you keep doing that. Supposed to leave it uncovered in a dust-free area. Happy creating!
@jennifertobinart

Hi, Sherelyn! Thanks so much for the comment. I agree, we are always learning! That’s why I love KZbin honestly. 💕💕 I’ll keep that in mind about the storage. I wonder if it helps that I add baby oil to mine regularly before sandwiching it between paper. But maybe I could store it in a plastic container (so less dust). Anyways, thanks again and happy creating to you as well!

Gina took the words right out of my mouth- I LOVE watching you gel print!!!🥰 I could watch you print all day long creating these beautiful collage papers! Ironically, I just committed myself to stop being so perfectionist about my prints and started to create organic collage papers overnight- this video was exactly what I needed to see when I sat down for a break.🤩 I would love more gel printing videos from you creating interesting collage papers, and I really liked seeing how you made marks on the gel plate with the brush & other tools- this is awesome INSPIRATION for me!! I always watch gel printing videos before I sit down for a session because I really need that inspiration to help me get out of my head, just play & let my creative juices flow, but it’s a struggle right now because of my overbearing perfectionist, especially when I use my stencils. I’m deliberately using the gel plate to try to break that so I can create awesome grungy & organic prints for collage papers! Thank you so much for this amazing video- I loved that it was a nice long one and I enjoy your narration, and I look forward to your next gel printing video!!😍 ⭐️Maybe you could make a gel print collage paper series using different themes- bright colors, neutrals, metallics, black & white, fluid acrylics, etc.?? I would love that!!💓💓💓

Thank you so much for commenting this Natalie! One of my goals is to encourage people to simply show up and create. {I actually took years off my art practice because of perfection and overthinking. And I regret doing that!} Your words are very confirming to me that I’m on the right path! 💕💕 Black & white prints is on my list and actually my next one is kind of interesting… it’s all about making patterns with a brayer. Hard to explain right now! But I can’t wait to share it! 💕 I like the other ideas too and I’ll add them to my list. I hope you have fun creating this weekend! ✨✨

I m enjoying your videos! I’m totally addicted to gelli printing. I really like to pull a bunch of backgrounds, like you did before. And my plate starts to build up paint. Then I get so many interesting prints with crusty bits on my prints. It’s so pretty. So, in the beginning, I just let it get dirty. You are on the right track. My favorite color is rainbow, but indigo is also one of my favorites too! If I get too much paint then I’ll just brayer it off onto a clean paper for a background. Save that for later. It’s so fun to meet other artists who love gel printing as much as I do. Thank you so much. I enjoyed your video.

This was so fun to watch! I love seeing all the layers of paint coming & going as you move through the printing process! It’s still a mystery to me how it works, though, & I guess for you also at times! It’s great to hear your comments when it’s a surprise to you. Or like when you used the string, I wouldn’t have figured out what I had done (or not done)! I’m glad to see you use various tools, do you use hard brayers most of the time? It cracked me up to hear you say how you were going to work with a limited selection of colors, but threw that out the window pretty quickly! That would be me! Those metallics really jazz things up, don’t they?! I don’t really know enough to ask very intelligent questions, so I’ll just ask for: more, please! Thank you for sharing the process of cleaning up, both at the beginning & at the end! It was great fun, thank you Jennifer! Erica❤

I stumbled upon your channel by accident and I’m totally excited that I did. I love how you try so many different things and layer on your colors and stencils. I checked out your Etsy shop and was hoping I would find some digital downloads. I cannot wait to go through your videos to see more of your creations. 😊

Hello & thanks for this generous comment! I have often wondered about offering digital downloads for this reason or even bundles of pieces I don’t use, etc. I will definitely add this to my list for the new year and figure out which works best for me. When you buy art downloads for junk journaling is there an agreement in there that states the art created isn’t for re-sale? Curious how that works & what you’ve noticed. I’ll look at Etsy listings & descriptions as well. 😍 Again, thanks for you comment & I’m happy you found me. I have lots coming after he new year!

I constantly cleaned my plate after each application; watching your process freed me up from trying for perfection. I would lay paint down with a lot of consideration, and while the results were pleasing, I wasn’t getting the look I was after. Your use of previously used prints to reprint on and how to use the brayer correctly. Overall I got A LOT from watching you, I’m a fan. 🙂

Hi are you familiar with Carolyn Dube? I call her the Gelli Queen. She says not to leave anything on your Gelli plate.but I do find some weird snaps that are hard to remove.. so you could be right. I think your papers turned out really good. How do you like Luke paint? Better than golden or liquitex ?
@jennifertobinart
@jennifertobinart 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynne! Thank you 💕 Yes, I hear different ways to store my gel plate. Letting them rest between paper has worked for me because I often put them away stacked up in a drawer. I really enjoy Lukas paints and their price. But they are thicker and a little goes a long way on the gel plate. And most are more opaque and layer up in a different way. I defiantly like using them for a good solid base color on my paper. I looove the golden fluid paints and the way they easily mix together on the plate.
