Made a mistake in glueing the foldout page to the book. Ended up taping a third piece of paper to the other two then attaching the signature to the book with elastic string. Worked out, and I have pages that flip out and are foldable just like yours. I have had such fun making this project - even with all the mistakes I made. I will definitely recommend your series of videos to anyone wanting to make a lapbook.

You’re so inspiring!! I especially love your masculine projects that are so badly needed in the craft world! many of us struggle to find ideas to make/gift for the men in our lives. Every one of your tuts is amazing, clear instructions and to the point! Tfs 🙏 PS: it’d be amazing if you could please link other videos in this lap book series as I can’t find them easily right now. I have several TH paper pads and really want to make one of these lap books, it’s def worth using my TH stash lol

Great lap book. Love it! I used your method and am creating a "friendship" book for a friend who's retiring soon. I tried washi tape with disappointing success, but rescued it with masking tape. Washi tape just doesn't have enough adhesive. It's been a fun journey watching you do yours, then working on mine. I'll share it on my blog when done. No videos, but some photos. Have a great weekend!

Not 100% maybe a look at the ingredients label will tell you what the active ingredients of Elmer’s are.

I'm part way through my first one. I'm having problems where I used washi tape on pages that bend both ways as it doesn't have enough stick.
@lindadesgroseilliers176 жыл бұрын
Most Washi tape that I've used isn't very tacky. You can make your Washi tape more permanent by using some gel medium, glue, etc. to stick it down. Matte gel medium is my favorite. I've done that with various journals and the tape has stayed glued for several years.
@maryjager17576 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem, the masking tape does not hold the pages in. Did you all end up gluing it in? Maybe mike has some magic super strong masking tape???? 😜
@anne-mariestevenson32966 жыл бұрын
My masking tape is holding up but the washi tape isn't even with glue. I think it's a width problem that there simply isn't enough in contact with the page to hold esp when the pages are moving. Mike's tape was wide. Anyway isn't all a learning curve!
@iknownothing-495 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, love these journals you are making. But it does worry me that I see so many people on KZbin using masking tape. As an older artist I’ve seen what happens to masking tape after 30 or so years. It becomes fragile, loses all adhesive properties and what’s worse, it leaves brown stains on paper. Thirty years isn’t as long as you think! I’m thinking tyvex with glue might be a better choice.
@MikeDeakinArt5 жыл бұрын
Yes I understand the differences, however, I’m not creating museum grade or heirloom pieces. I’m showing how I make them for my personal use. Most people will substitute stronger more longer lasting materials if they want to create their own hand me down projects to leave to future generations.
