Hi Mike, you totally made this look super easy for something you are not comfortable with. Fantastically done my friend. I really do love this lapbook and all the page prep and now binding you have done on it. I love how well you've produced this video too.

Thanks forshowing how to do the sewing Thanks so much for showing us how to do this sewing in of the sections of paper, I always wanted to see how this is done, and your demonstration was so easy to watch and learn . Thank you so much and I liked how to do the other side for those pages that are removable. Thanks again for a great tutorial . Jas 🇦🇺

Super journal, Mike! I like having a permanently stitched portion and the alternate slide-in section to create a portfolio with flexible use. Thanks for modeling the process! TFS. From Cheryl in AZ

A wee suggestion: use coordinated washi tape for each two strands of signature to tape down. Then the length etc. can come at the end of all stitching when one can make decisions on embellishments, etc. Could it be that Mike may become hooked on stitching, making his own journals. Coptic stitching is yet to come. And down the road multipurpose "journals" could be prepared for steampunk shows and sold along side Ian's sculpture/machines of high imagination. The anticipation grows. Methinks you are a natural at this.

This video is ironic for me. After watching a couple of how to videos on making lapbooks and not being able to comprehend the construction, I had the thought, "Why don't I just sew in things?! SO I have one in process with a file folder cover and I'm temporarily holding things together with a hair elastic but I'm realizingthat it's an option to have permanent and removeable as you have shown. Thanks again for your great work and again for the very clear directions.

Great job at book binding. I bind books as well. Next time, wax your thread, it will make things go easier. Now you do not have to buy a big chunk of beewax, just use a candle and run your thread against it.

Love the lap book, Mike! Waxed linen thread is about as strong as any thread you can find for bookbinding, comes in a variety of weights and colors and pretty much will outlast any other option for binding. And an easy trick for grabbing the slippery needle to pull through is a piece of balloon, the type used at birthday parties -- nothing fancy but it really grabs the needle and makes those tough pulls a bit easier. I hope you'll be showing us how you do the wonderful fold-outs that you have in your larger lap book!

Hello again Mike, loving a new view on the journals. Was wondering though if you knew any other male crafters on You-tube that need a shout out or a few new viewers. Would love to support more crafters than just the typical ones that I love so dearly. Hmm it looks like you may be a busy man, as I don't see any comments, so if anyone reading this knows of other male journal builders who do tutorials, I would love to check them out too.

I'm not sure about other males who create journals or do book smithing, but there are quite a few out there making art and craft videos.

Where’s the template for pamphlet stitching please? I made the basic structure and am following other videos in a sequence that makes sense to me. Just a small suggestion: numbering the videos in the series will help newbies to learn which part is constructed next… step by step. Ty!!

I have just used washi tape to bind the book instead of yellow tape. The washi I had to stick down with glue, but am worried the washi tape in the centre won’t be strong enough to put string through to add binded pages. have you experienced this at all? I have added extra layers of washi tape just in case.
@MikeDeakinArt6 жыл бұрын
I have no experience using washi in this way, I have used duct/duck tape which is a fabric tape and far more robust! XO
