I’ve been doing this for a lot of videos and the retention rate on them is roughly the same as ones that I’ve done intense editing and tons of b-roll throughout the whole video. Honestly I think people have seen all the slowmo broll that they need to see in their lives so that’s not really keeping people anymore.

Your opening remark is what I've been waiting to hear. I hope all KZbinrs, especially Americans, should take note. In these days and ages, once you upload your video, it's not only your fellow citizen that you will reach, but many thousand times that around the world. Contents is key but presentation is king. No matter how valuable your subject is, it only takes a second to change to another channel if the listener is not happy with your style. I must admit I'm partial to English, or even Canadian KZbinrs, except for some Americans that I really like and have subscribed. I don't dislike Americans in general; I can understand why they do certain things the way they do, but it doesn't mean I have to put up with it.

In many ways I understand and agree with your main point, but I think it’s also important to take a step back and realize that a population of 335 million people can’t be distilled down to simple stereotypes. It’s tempting to do so, but we have to resist such simplifications. The real world is not that trivial to parse.

After watching this video...my procrastinating level dropped by half...i procrastinated alot because of the thought of the work I was going put into the video at the editing phase...but your 80-20 rule makes alot of sense... definitely gonna be implementing this in my videos.

The value is so important Sean you do a great job delivering the value and useful tools and ideas we can use as video creators!

This really depends on the niche you are in. There are some good points here but it's not universal. It's not always value points. KZbin is the new TV. So much about it is entertainment. If you are just doing marketing and advertising, you are like a commercial. If you have a channel with a brand, it's about you. It's about entertainment. You are the product, not the gimmicks.

Totally agree about putting the effort in the beginning. While our channel is young (fewer than 40 videos) the initial ‘this is what this video is about’ is very important to us and takes up a disproportionate amount of editing time :) Another great video!!!!

Thanks Sean, I've never heard this idea of front loading from anyone else. It really makes sense.

It’s called the Pareto principle, applies to life in general, 20percent of efffort delivers 80 percent results. Especially with youtube those first seconds are so important. Larry

Great points cheers. I like to think my channel provides, entertainment, education, and most of all inspiration, I want viewers to watch my efforts then get out and make their effort.

Awesome tips.. Great timing.. as i was struggling with my next adventure video editing.. have a question.. do you create a script first and record that or do you have the videos ready and then try to tell the story as you see it?.. I’m not creating educational content.. it’s more like adventure stuff.. so i do struggle with that a bit..

Hey Sean , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with Best Quality Editing in your videos better than your Editor with good pricing and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your videos to reach to a wider audience ? Pls let me know what do you think ?
