This is so good!!! We are reading the Bronze Bow. I just saw the drama teacher getting rid of old Roman props (armor, flags, etc…). Going this morning to retrieve them!

Brilliant idea Reynolds! It would also be helpful if you could bring on some math & science teachers who incorporate these ideas.

We were thinking of doing something like that as well. Hope we can put something together for you!

I am happy to hear that because I am a Math & Science Teacher in Philadelphia and I want to be able to incorporate these ideas into those two subjects

Great ideas! I have a "tea party" as part of my Shakespeare unit. I keep it simple, and (most) kids appreciate the food/drinks. I enjoy doing it every year.

Thanks for giving me back something I used to do!!!!!! Thanks for the re-inspiration of some great ideas to make school fun, instead of getting caught up in the curriculum and the timeline of getting to where the learning should be at that time of year!

My fourth graders are writing "spooky stories" to practice writing narratives. I am definitely setting up a scary storytelling vibe in the room next week when volunteers share their final drafts for our classroom audience! I can totally see how that would transform a simple, positive time in the classroom to a much more meaningful experience.

That's awesome Hank! I'd love to know how it goes. Peace!

Loooooove the idea of the sound effects!
@jalenacruse11252 жыл бұрын
Do you assign the sound effects job to the student before class where they would have to read the section prior to research the effects? What sites do they get the sound effects so they come on at the right time and not a KZbin ad. Ha

could you share the video from kate the sleepy teacher where she flips the desks. I'm searching but could use some guidance

All of this sounds amazing and I agree. Have you made a video of how much enrichment you can add with the very bare minimum a school gives? Very low income neighborhood in Los Angeles in the projects. I think we have a patch of grass somewhere?

The art teacher at my school (also my husband) can fashion long skinny balloons into many shapes. He has made me balloon swords for the fight scene from Romeo and Juliet between Tybalt, Mercutio, and Romeo. The students I have now still remember it when they had my class two years ago.

Those kids will remember that for the rest of their lives! Your class and family sound awesome!

My favorite idea was the sound effects job. That is absolutely brilliant. I teach United States History and I am thinking how I could incorporate that into my lessons.

I LOVE the ideas for the sound engineer, but I have no idea how to find, store and organize sound effects in my classroom. How do you do this? I only have access to Google apps, wifi and a school laptop that doesn't let me install any apps or software. My large flatscreen is my only speaker and all sound is routed through my laptop. I looked into a sound board but can't go that route because it requires a driver to be installed and I can't be trusted with that ability, apparently. Help! My students would respond so much to this idea of incorporating sounds. :)

Where do you find sound effects and background music that's easy for students to match to reading and to choose from?
@CJReynolds23 күн бұрын
I look it up on KZbin. If I’m reading “ Romeo and Juliet” and I need something for the balcony scene I might look up “ sappy, instrumental, love jams.” if I have a student who I’m pretty sure I was gonna have a journal entry that they wrote about the game winning for touchdown and I need music to match it. I would look up “ dramatic climactic instrumental music.” Here are two examples: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYWoZWR9esZ_nLMsi=DscD0FvsucY7h09I kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZ2pap2oiNqdpLMsi=6xczI4EQepky6EKO The key is to download them before you use them in class if possible that way, you don’t have ads popping up and triggering students that are having a hard time paying attention otherwise . Once you find the right jams, I make a playlist on KZbin or on my desktop so that I can reference them each year.

How do you achieve this when you teach math? Your ideas are really excellent but when it comes to math i really struggle to apply any of these
@dominiquederose45732 жыл бұрын
I had the best math teacher ever. She made everything into cheesy songs but it helped us kids to remember content that was necessary for math problem solving. She wasn’t scared to make a fool of herself and she inspired me. She brought a lightheartedness to math. Math can often be so serious, and students can get down on themselves. When a teachers start singing a cheezy song to memorize the skill, it made us all want to try again instead of getting down on ourselves.

I love this! I’m reading Legends of Sleepy Hollow with my 4th graders. You gave me the idea to take my class to the bridge that crosses a creek on our school grounds. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions! I teach special ed math (8th grade) and having a hard time translating most of these ideas to that subject area, especially considering the behavior and executive functioning challenges my students face. Any tips? (Or, is there another resource you know of that I should check out?) Thanks!

This is the second comment I got about this. Steph, I'm going to reach out to a friend of mine to figure out a way to help math teachers do something similar. Thanks for the idea!
