I found that the best solution was to just stop teaching. I found a job where I can make more money and work with adults.

I'm working on that.

This is one of the best videos I've seen so far, it deserves more view. I'll definitely share. The technical language helped me understand and I loved the practical examples as well. This is bound to help me in my situation. Thank you so much!😊 a good teacher can change a kid's life

We substitute teachers have a whole other solution to use. We can't "Build A Relationship!" That is what you need a BULLHORN for. Actually... a bullhorn is a bit excessive. A small megaphone will do the job and is smaller/easier to carry. You will need a backup to use if the megaphone does not do the job. Kids doing things UNSAFE? Totally out of control? That's why you need a coaches whistle! Be sure to get a COACHES whistle which has the little "pea" inside that makes the warbling whistle sound. No pea... no warbling,. If you NIP the problems in the bud, you will not usually need the megaphone or the whistle. I tried a doorbell. It doesn't get their attention UNLESS YOU HAVE A RELATIONSHIP with the kids. Like I said, we substitutes have no time to build a relationship like you teachers do. Another strategy is to NAME THE GAME and YELL LOUDLY. Don't say, "Please stop pushing each other boys!" They won't respond to that. You've got to YELL LOUDLY "HEY! NO FAKE FIGHTS IN MY CLASS!!!!" and then the whole class will get quiet because YOU SCREAMED at them. Then you say (more quietly), "That's how fights start! We have a rule that says KEEP your hands to yourself!" and say, "If you have another fake fight, I am calling the office and YOU MIGHT GET EXPELLED! it's a serious thing to FIGHT in class!" By doing THAT, now you have a RELATIONSHIP with the whole class,. Instant relationship. Unfortunately, we subs don't have time to build relationships over time.

Teachers are not supported when they try to consequence students. Why not?Admins are afraid of the parents. So pathetic.

Consequences for misbehaving? Hahahaha Admin wont support that.

Sad, but unfortunately true sometimes. I’m lucky that I’m in a situation where my Admin team is very supportive. Unfortunately, I know many teachers who don’t have that support system. Thanks for watching the video. Thanks for the response. Keep being a hero! And have a great rest of the year!

Back in days of yore prior to my earth shattering discovery that teaching is impossible or at the very least intolerable by any sensitive person my policy was to single out offenders and confront them directly. Then in the next stage of my personal development I forsake teaching kids in favor of adult GED tutoring before ultimately, realizing that any form of teaching was a fool’s errand. So I quit to become first a merchant seaman and then later a self employed barber for 20 years. I no longer believe in conventional public schooling and always vote no on school levies. All I would gladly pay for in the form of [vastly reduced] property taxes would be free online academy performed remotely at home or perhaps in a church basement daycare center or something similar to that. The current mass over-schooling of psychopathic imbeciles needs to end.
