DJ Rick Web I know you use the VRX sub woofers would you move To Duel 18’s in the future now that you have your trailer or would you stick with the VRX. Also how hard does the VRX sub hit ? I remember from your subwoofer placement video you talking about how putting your subs together add’s six DB And I’m going speaker shopping soon and I can’t decide whether to do the dual 18 or to get two to four VRX subs. Thanks so much your videos are really helpful and entertaining

I am going to be adding duals and line arrays. But still using vrx single 18s as well. Just depends on the gig. The vrx sub is one of the hardest hitting subs I know in its price range.

Ever go to a concert and just watch what the sound managers are doing? I basically always try to sit within view of the stage performance and the sound managers! Truly geeking out on what they do and it motivates me to be even just the equipment guy to learn as much as possible! I worked security at Journal Pavillion and we usually were there hours before the gigs but just watching and listening to sound checks was so cool! Listening to all this I've actually understood it for once! I totally understand where your coming from when you have someone using equipment and pushing it too far. Recently had a blown speaker and it wasn't mine but I was still upset because this is how I make extra money...some day I'll be able to afford 1 JBL 715 or 815. Thanks for taking the time to break this down for us, I find it informative! Cheers-

Much respect for all you do. Your videos are the reason why I recently upgraded from a pair of old JRX 115 speakers powered by a Crown XLS 1500 amp to a pair of SRX 815's and the difference is night and day in both quality sound and volume output. I do have a question for you though. Maybe you can cover this in a future video. Iv'e noticed that with the SRX speakers, there are 2 line inputs in the back of each of them, and if I take both the left and right outputs of the mixer each with its own cable, and place them individually into each input of just one SRX speaker, the mono sound is louder and seems better than if I were to run both speakers in stereo using the left out put of the mixer into one single input of one speaker and the right output of the mixer into the other speaker. Which is better in your opinion when it comes to these speakers and using them for events? Daisy chaining each speaker using both left and right ouputs of the mixer into each speaker individually or running both on stereo using only one of the inputs for each speaker?
@DJRickWeb

As explained in the video, the JBL SRX can and has to be adjusted to the user's application. However, this requires a lot of confidence from the buyer that the SRX will eventually sound as desired after suitable tuning. Usually, PA speakers are tested right out of the box with flat EQ and that's very understandable too. In a music store you're limited to that in most cases. In terms of concept, the RCF (e.g., ART 745) is the complete opposite - simple and straight forward plug and play. The big sonic difference between the ART 745 and the SRX 815P is due to the HF driver. As for plastic vs. plywood cabinets: I don't think plywood makes too much sense for musicians (or even DJs?), as the sonic difference will hardly justify the extra weight. ART 745 vs SRX 815P: 41.5 vs. 63 lbs - the JBL is heavier by a factor 1.5 - fruit for thought.

A limiter is a true safety, which in essence is just a compressor with a high ratio. Compressors at lower ratios lessen the range between quiets and louds but they don’t necessarily protect. Good vid

I think that having to boost certain frequencies may add distortion to your signal if you are at peak output level of your speaker, would you agree? I would put the frequency response of the RCF more down to speaker cabinet design and natural characteristics of their drivers. I don't think they just slap a smiley face EQ on it just to make it sound the way it does.
@DJRickWeb
@DJRickWeb 6 жыл бұрын
As long as the increase isnt drastic and the speaker isnt hitting limit it will be fine. And knowing that I raised the bass more than the highs means the sub amp will limit first which is the bigger of the two amps in the speaker. Poor choice of wording for what rcf does. They tune the cabinet to sound like that. They dont just slap an eq on there like you said

I like video, thanks. I have a question, that refer to the limiter of SRX815P. Is it possible to set an ideal ‘brick wall’ limitation? If you rise the gain, the volume also increases linear until reach the maximum level, without distorsion, overdrive. If you pump more input signal into the SRX, there is not more volume, no distorsion, no overdrive, but a crystal clear sound. Is it possible to set it by its own audio architect, without external high performance limiter unit?
@DJRickWeb
@DJRickWeb 2 жыл бұрын
You can set a limiter, but with any limiter it will hit that wall and as you pump more and more input to it it will begin to distort. Just the nature of Sound. Once one source in the gain chain (dj controller, mixer, etc) starts adding to the sound (above 0 db output) it will start to distort

I mean..... the RCF doesn’t need presets. The RCF is a speaker. The JBL is a lot more complicated and there are different uses for each. Their test was decently fair, running each speaker out of the box. The RCF doesn’t need a DriveRack. It doesn’t need EQ, because it sounds good out of the box. The JBL needs tuning because it doesn’t sound good out of the box.

Kudos to you for being young and lifting heavy ass speakers on to stands, lol....As much as I like to personally tune my own sound....I'm not into weighting lifting at the beginning or end of a party, those days are over. However, the JBL's are cool...just too mid-heavy in my opinion. I didn't like the SRX tops when I demoed them...but I still think their subs are GREAT!

Thx and keep with good videos as allways i am following :)

Hey what's up Rick, i just recently bought a pair of jbl srx815. i currently have a pair of prx815 as well. i bought them being new to jbl to use with my srx828 subs. Then i learned of the srx815 so that's why i upgraded. what do recommend as far as presets for the srx815. (1) for running them stand alone, and (2) for when run with my sub(s)? Do u think the factory preset for pairing with the 828's sounds decent enough?

Would you bother doing this with a driverack? I have the same driverack you have but never bother to hook Ethernet up to the speakers.
@HamDrumss
@HamDrumss 6 жыл бұрын
DJ Chris he said that he does the eq with the drive rack it’s self he doesn’t need to hookup Ethernet at a gig because the drive rack is in his signal chain feeding the speakers there information, also in this vid he made a pre set that is now stored on the speaker and it will give him the consistent sound that he likes , I believe you can make pre sets like that in the drive rack itself which I think is even easier because it never leaves his main gig box😁
@DJRickWeb
@DJRickWeb 6 жыл бұрын
Well the driverack pa2 is not ment to connect the ethernet of speakers to it. The driverack ethernet is to hook up a router so you can control the rack with a iPad, phone, or laptop.

But I probably will make a driverack video

Exactly. The driverack let's you save different setup configurations and everything. It makes life for a person that wants full EQ and sound parameter control a lot easier then making presets for all the speakers.

@@DJRickWeb I absolutely agree with you, the first part of my comment was ironic. You've greatly shown your opinion in this video, very technical and professional. Good but not overly demanded in the concert field. They sound very similar to JBL in terms of being loud. I find that a lot of other brands have better clarity in the highs and mids then both. I am speaking of course on concert style gear. Line arrays.
