Great video. I like your SketchUp tutorials better than any I've seen. One thing that would help beginners, in using SU for any craft project, would be showing how to produce the text and lines that illustrate dimensions, so that the image can be printed out as a construction plan. I do screenshots sometimes and print from those, otherwise the dimensions would have to be remembered when we head into the shop.

Michael Lusk Disabled Vet WoodWorker I did this to show you that if you copy a component while you are in the editing portion of a component then when you make changes to it, it will not affect the other but it will still be connected as a component. Normally when you want to copy something and keep it connected so every change you make will affect the other then you cannot be inside the component when you make the copy.

and for the fellow woodworkers, there is a free cad program, downloadable which is a little better than sketchup make Design Spark Mechanical 5.0 it can open all your sketchup files, also step and obj etc even stl files . but one of its main advantages is for instance the boolean operations like add and subtract, if you draw the tenon, you can let the software make the mortise, by just subtracting the material. And there are lots more possibilities. The combination works great, Kind regards Hans

Perhaps that my inexperience with these joints but any pointers on that facet?? Thanks for these awesome tutorials! You earned a new sub from me for sure!

@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Michael Lusk Disabled Vet WoodWorker Hey Michael, the lock joint for this top really doesn’t give a whole lot of structural support it’s just a method to attach the top and give more glue surface without having to make an actual groove the width of the board. So the top has a quarter inch by quarter inch groove that goes from one end to the other through and through. The apron has a quarter inch by quarter inch offset tongue that accepts that top groove. Also the apron has a 3/4 inch by 1/4 inch deep dado to accept the legs. Does that clear it up?
@thekumo_dee4 жыл бұрын
@@rhwoodshop I got it now I had to hide the top to see it better with the top off the three segments from the offset through me off looked like that was part of the sides(legs) Thanks for explaining
@philshock38056 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Drew! Awesome series you've got going! I really love that you show how to correct misalignments. (that gets really time consuming for me sometimes) One thing I'm not understanding though is how did the dados get out of alignment on the opposite side? (not the front to back where you simply flipped it - but the side to side). Oh btw - greetings from Stillwater! :)
@rhwoodshop6 жыл бұрын
Well if you go back and look when I made the reference line for the second leg which is where the misalignment happened I reference the inside portion of the leg instead of the outside portion and when I reference the .75 reference line off of that Mark, it ended up taking it 3/4 of an inch inward which caused the dado to be in the wrong place.

Hi, I'm using Sketchup Make for Windows and when I make changes to a component (like making the dado in the apron) it does not make the same change to the copy apron. Any ideas as to why? Thank you!
@Tonyswoodshop5 жыл бұрын
I was having the same problem. First make the guidelines for where you want the dado. Next click on the component until it turns blue, then you can make a rectangle and use the push/pull option. It worked for me. I didn't have the component selected and that was my problem.
@rhwoodshop5 жыл бұрын
+Chuck Maddox if you copy a component while you are inside the component then any changes you make to one will not affect the other. You must highlight the component without going into it to copy it. This will allow you to make changes to one and it will also affect the other
