This is a very useful tool and great way to show it. Never knew about the anchor point before and can't wait to use it. This video was a lot of help explaining how to use it and how it works

Thanks for the amazing tutorial! It's really helpful for my work :) Just curious, at 8:27, why don't you directly change the base color of Pattern Layer rather than making anchor point?

Because the mask for the height has a sloping gradient, so it looks beveled, while the mask for the color should be hard and sharp. You just get more control this way.

what resolution or size do you need to make to use your own pattern? Could you show how to make your own pattern? what file format should the pattern be? I created my own pattern in Photoshop, but when I scaled it up it looked all jaggy...thanks

It will look jaggy no matter what u do as it also accounts for the aliasing of your pattern, in other words, it's raster-based graphics at export, Unless they were able to support Vector Graphics and can use SVG files like in Adobe Illustrator. you just need to add a blur filter. But of course, higher resolution is better 2k or 4k should be enough for games.

1 stupid question, you use tesselation for that model to an extrem, where else would that be used? not in games, not in movies. I don't get what it is good for...
