Creating soles for custom BJD shoes

This week's video is a step toward nice shoes for both Firal and Laele, since they wear similar sizes! Soles are always the biggest challenge in making shoes for dolls. What to use for them? How to make them uniform? Well, why not cast them in resin?
I think I may dye the soles, rather than painting them. What do you think?

I had looked for ideas for shoe soles for a long time and couldn't find any either. I figured it just meant I had to work it out for myself. I'm glad it will be useful to you!

Ah this was so fun to watch. I've tried sculpting heels for one of my dolls before since there are no shoes in her size but never had any luck. I will DEFINITELY try with polymer clay now, haha. Such a shame about the silicone :c Good to see you worked around it! Can't wait to see them all dolled up, haha

I had tried once before with epoxy clay and it just didn't work well at all XP Too sticky, too limp, huge waiting times... Polymer clay worked so much better. Can't wait to see what you make!

Omg omg omg . I’m getting a ball jointed doll for my birthday . He will be here in April or somewhere close to that. When I get him can you do a face up and make him a wig please. I just don’t trust myself to do it

I made the masters with Sculpey clay and then cast them using Oomoo silicone and Alumilite casting resin.

If you really wanted high heel feet maybe someone on doa might want to sell theirs or might do some kind of group order or you could get it off Denver doll shipping from them is pretty cheap in the us

Alumilite :) It's available in most stores as Amazing Casting Resin.

Why can't you just do a template for one foot and flip it for the pattern for the other foot? Edit: OH you're CASTING! Well, that's a different story. XD

Yeah, that was the hang up! If I'd had more silicone, I would have done both left and right... but I had very little silicone left and then even that was expired, so it was best to keep it simple this time. ^^;

You really should be wearing gloves while doing this. Resin and silicone can both be harmful to you when absorbed into the skin. I would hate to see anything happen to you.

I didn't always have them on hand back then, but I do now! I keep some big boxes of gloves and refills for my respirator under my work desk. :D Thank you for your concern
