I’m totally inspired. I’ll do the sounds of photography, from switching lenses to the click of the shutter. I have a drinkware collection so I’ll ting different glasses. I’ll get out the old toys and block collections, record the snap of LEGOs. I’ll record my hand tool collection, the sound of ratchets. The exercise equipment. Cleaning sounds. Snipping weeds in the backyard. I appreciate this video. So much to explore.

If it's a part of the ambience, I usually leave it in to preserve the authenticity of the recording. But when it comes to microphone self noise, it's a different story. I have found Bertom Denoiser to be a great tool for handling such issues. It does a fantastic job without compromising the quality of the original sound. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

This is gold! My dream is to craft audio stories, with narration and sounds, but since I don't have any kind of formation in the field, I'm picking up elements and ideas from youtube, and just trying different things in order to learn and figure out my path. I've got a Tascam DR-07x, and a Shure SM58 to connect to it. I'll see what can I do with those (but I'm sadly discovering that those two things are not the ideal combination... maybe I should sell the Shure microphone and buy a microphone that works better with the recorder).
@FreeToUseSounds
@FreeToUseSounds 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cristobal! Well the Tascam is not a bad start but feel free to check out the video about the AT 4025 that I did. You can get a recorder with 2XLR inputs and you are set.

@@FreeToUseSounds Thanks for your reply! The AT 4025 looks awesome, but firstly I need to learn how to do stuff with more affordable devices, like the Tascam I've got already. There's a lot to learn, and I think it would be unwise to spare more money without really knowing what I'm doing haha. In fact, that's what happened when I bought a recorder and a microphone that doens't work well together. By the way, I discovered your channel like a week ago, and I'm listening to your podcast as well. I love both! Greetings from Chile!

I just by chance happened to watch your Iceland video this morning. That led me to your sound effects library! I downloaded 2 for a short film I'm trying to make. Then I downloaded some of your podcasts. Then driving today with my wife we listened to 2 of them. They were great stories! My wife is not even into the arts but wanted to hear more. Then I got home and watched so more videos from you guys. Then I subscribed. All just by 1 chance click. I hope you 2 don't get burned out by creating sooo much content. To me this channel would make for a really interesting reality show ( Maybe thats already what this is?) Maybe one day you could do a novelty sounds album with things like, throwing jello against a wall, running a lawnmower over a pumpkin- hey even popping lightbulbs with your boots,...Hahah

Actually one day I found out the pastaplates of my former flatmate had a very nice conistent tone so I recorded them with various exciters and micpositions. I also did velocity layers and round robins. Then I ran them through RX and Melodyne to clean and pitch them. In the next weeks I will finish them within a Kontakt instrument.

Oh wow! I just watched a video about how to make your own Kontakt. I'm starting to edit my piano sound recordings and I'm not sure if I should just release the wav files or create a Kontakt library. But I do know I need the NI ecosystem, 5 or 6. Any alternatives you can think off?
@mxp1837
@mxp1837 4 жыл бұрын
@@FreeToUseSounds With Kontakt 5 you´ll eventually reach more people than with Kontakt 6, but Kontakt is still a big paygate. You can try the decent sampler from David Hilowitz´ Decentsamples. It is quite new and free. But still in beta. If you do not need any specific effects within the sampler or some playbackengines, this could be the way to go, when it´s done. David has also tutorials on his channel about programming Kontakt, if you want. The Logic sampler with its .exs is also quite widespread but only a few sampler on windows can import this format.

Awesome video, thank you. I have a question: when to use mono mic, when to use stereo mic please? And not only at home. It might not be as obvious as it “sounds” - it's a bit confusing for me. Also, cardioid or omni, which one is for what. Thank you for your help. I am aware the subject is vast, so maybe it's an idea for a vlog? @@leemski Oh so sorry! So for microphone basics you can check here helpwiki.evergreen.edu/wiki/index.php/Microphone_Basics but there also KZbin videos about the different microphone types. You can use mono to record sound effects but also if you want a more direct sound. For example there is a cicada sitting in a bush and you want this sound very narrow. You don't want to use a stereo microphone because this will pick up the ambience around it. Same with birds. And yes if you use two mono microphones and connect them on the recorder, you get a stereo signal.

@@FreeToUseSounds No problem! Thanks a lot for taking time in responding to me. You are concise and clear, very very helpful. May I ask another question: about the cable length, it is not about the quality but the efficiency/comfort length when we go for the field recording - XLR cables are pretty heavy and bulky when long. So by your experience what do you prefer to use when you travel or go for field recording, please? Vielen Dank :)

There is dialogue between the two and two cameras are catching each actors performances. The car is showed traveling but, and here it come, the gear selector is in the park position. Drives me crazy!
