Hello from Italy! Thanks for sharing this very nice trick. I usually buy silicone lubricants which are quite costly, I suspect they're not much different after all. Anyway, as someone else also wrote in the comments, I wouldn't be too keen on using this on thin rubber before a long-running test. I hope people will keep on posting here about their experiences, also with different solvents; I'm sure I will. Keep on with the good stuff on this channel! I love it!!!

Could you use isopropyl alcohol as a solvent with the silicon

"I'm amazed at how effective this silicone and solvent mixture is! Thanks for sharing such a practical DIY tip. It's great to see how easily accessible materials can be used to protect and maintain our tools and vehicles. Looking forward to trying this out myself!"

Yes. when the solution is applied to a surface the isopropyl alcohol would evaporate off leaving the thin layer of silicone. Solvent's like alcohol or paint thinner should be able to dilute silicone into a consistent liquid state. The applications for this would be limited though. A thin layer of silicone wouldn't last long in direct sunlight, this would be better suited for bathroom or kitchen projects inside a home.

For sealing the back of the sink, start behind the tap and work your way outwards, and repeat going the other side without those silicon extenders.

Don't put that on your bike tires, because of their slim profile, the solution can get onto the rubber surface where the rubber meets the road, which you will lose traction.

I believe friction will wear away the solution from the tread in a matter of minutes. But the advice may still stand for those first minutes, especially on wet or otherwise slippery grounds. A much worse problem you may experience is reduced friction at brake action, but that also might go away quickly.

You can't buy butyl acetate here in Finland.. will any other solvent work.. 👍
