Aramaic is the original Hebrew. Jesus and the apostles all spoke it as did the Jews of his day. Israel supposedly resurrected the Hebrew language, it's not the original Hebrew my understanding is. Anyway Israel doesn't exist now, it only existed as the 12 tribes. They are long gone , Jesus cursed the fig tree and said it would never bear fruit again, that was the long gone biblical Israel. The kingdom was removed from them and given to another nation that would bear fruit according to Jesus himself in the parable of the tenants of the vineyard

KJV of 2Tim 2:15 begins with 'Study to shew thyself approved - what does your bible say? Who killed Goliath: A Sunday School child would be able to tell you. The KJV says Elhanan killed Goliath's brother 2Sam 21:19.

@Viewpoint11 When the Catholics first began their religion in the 3rd or so century, they burnt just about all true bibles, but not all. It was Martin Luther who found the real bible in the cellar of his church. He had it printed and sent it to England to William Tinsdale. By 1611, the bible had been translated into English and comfimed. This happened during the reign of King James 2nd. There was only one word that was changed because there was no English interpretation for the Hebrew word that means 'passover. This bible is the written word of God. All other bibles are corrupt. Ivan Panin affirmed ( look him up ) that this was the true word of God.

This is dumb and simply not true. Don't stick to the king James, which has many mistranslations. Read many versions and check everything against a concordance. That's the only real way to do things. The KJV has issues just like every translation.

The King James Bible is the only English Version Bible that doesn't have a copyright. In order for all of the other versions to obtain their copyrights, they cannot have "Substantial Similarity"; hence, they are not all teaching the same message.

I completely agree. Most of the major Bibles were written with the intent to get them accurate and those them are a little different and I think some have mistakes. I don’t think they’re written deceptively. I think some are a little off like the one used with Calvinism, but the standards the king James, new king James NIV living Bible they’re all OK. Unless you speak old English, how do you tell people start with an NIV or something like that. I like parallel Bibles. Some of them come with four different versions in one physical book written, side-by-side. Generally I start with an NIV and anything I find important or interesting or that really touches me or anything confusing. I will look at other references and King James and if it’s something very specific we’re context is relevant. I’ve even got a Young’s literal translation Bible New Testament. It’s incredibly hard to read because they tried to do a literal translation so you’re reading everything in the format of Hebrew Greek or Aramaic. Once we found the dead sea scrolls, we can confirm that I think it was every book of the Old Testament, but Ruth was pretty accurate, you can buy a dead scrolls copy, and it’s pretty much identical. For most people I would say, start with something like an NIV. Parallel Bible with king James is good and if something is confusing or if it something you’re really drawn to then you just glance over and read the King James version which will be right next to it. Even then sometimes it’s good to go back if a specific word is confusing and something like John 336 do you want to go look at the original word and it’s meanings and you can usually do that online you can look up meaning of and a specific verse, and it will usually jump you to commentaries, and if you thumb through a couple, you usually find a translation of the original Greek or Hebrew or Aramaic And it’s multiple context. I use John 336 because John 316 says whoever believes in him but when you go to 36 it says believes and obeys him and legalist like to say that means we have to follow the law but also you need to read the you need to go back a chapter and read all the way through it before and after to get the full context and you find out that that Greek word is talking about believe in that section is talking about God, pouring out a spirit and calling us to believe in Christ in that context, it’s telling us to obey God, calling us through the spirit to believe in Christ as our salvation and the Messiah, so to not obey would be to not believe, and when you look at the Greek translation of the word, it means to refuse to believe it says those who do not believe and obey, and in that context, what it means, is believe and obey God And the words, John is writing from Jesus telling you to believe in him, to not obey, would be to not do what he’s telling you, which is to believe in him as the Messiah to be saved. so having multiple copies is good I’ve seen on Amazon that they have some with three or even four different versions in one book side-by-side. I usually just keep a couple copies around and if I see something or hear something from someone and it’s a little different I’ll go back and check the King James, and a couple other versions and that usually we do in the right direction if not, I usually just try to pull up the meaning online and read a couple commentaries and follow the ones that back it up with scripture and of the original language word used and its meanings.

Heard recently a testimony of a radical conversion and they reasoned the King James bibles must be the one to read without any input from anyone else. I guess their reasoning was that if God is, then there is no way He would have left generations of believers without a sufficiently accurate version as the king james bible was for hundreds of years.

From what I've read on those people in 1600 they were pretty devout. They copied word to word but it's off a little in that latan has 3 meanings for love. Friendship love, fatherly love, and Godly love. Which one do they mean ? That's the off part to translation. It's accurate to the story. Here's one more. . "Let there be light " They did not know the word Nova when wrote or translated. Thats Day 1 of creation Day 2 the moon in our orbit. Nova pushed it to our orbit. Day3 water. . The ice age ice melted from that super hot nova. . So it's scientific if you look that direction.

Really not trying to start something here; just being academic. It is my understanding that Catholics and Protestants get their translations from two different Jewish sources. Catholics get theirs from an earlier source, most likely housed in the alexandrian library. Protestants get theirs from another, slightly later, Jewish source. The problem Catholics have with this is that post-Christ’s life and death, the Jews had become quite heretical(by older Jewish standards). Hatred of Christianity led them to botch many of their writings when they saw Christians using them to translate. And then, of course, we have the issue of 7-1/2 books removed during the Reformation.

Dynamic equivalence worked fairly well in the 1984 NIV but since then, notably in the 2011 NIV, it has been a Trojan horse for smuggling feminism and political correctness into Christians' thinking. My advice would be to use a variety of formal equivalence translations, e.g. KJV and NASB, but to retain a 1984 NIV alongside them for when formal equivalence is unclear. I would have nothing to do with paraphrases.

There are two lines of manuscripts. One has 5000 copies which agree faithfully with each other proving them to be true. The other line has only a few MSS and mainly two which don't even agree with each other and are loaded with corrections. Which would you prefer? 5000 copies that all say the same thing, or 2 copies that don't agree with each other? The 5000 are used to make the King James Bible. The 2 are used to make all other version.

The KJV and NKJV are the closest word for word translations. I believe this to be the best way to read the translation because it is attempting to use the actual words that GOD inspired. I have found that the other translations tend to give commentary as the translation which can be useful, but it narrows the meaning of the text to that specific translators interpretation and you could miss out on a deeper understanding because you are being guided by the translation rather then the Holy Spirit.

Is it the one by Erasmus the one by Elzevir or any other of the more than ten versions? Which one of the editions of the KJV is the one to be prefered? The one from 1611? The first edition with the apocryphal books? You don't understand that the very first edition of the textus receptus already was a textual critical edition of the New Testament, and that any of the following editions as well were critically edited. In contrast to the Nestlé Aland text, that was edited following strict guidlines, the editions of the textus receptus were edited following the ideas of a single editor. The KJV was commissioned because the calvinist Genfer Bible was too anti royalistic for King James.

I read and go by the KJV. No other Bible holds the true as well as the KJV. It is meant to be confusing because he wants you to find the things you don't understand so The Almighty God can let you have understanding that he chooses to help you understand. All the living bibles give the person who reads these type of bibles someone else's interpretation is not the same at all that God our Lord will reveal to you in time when a person own individual conclusions as to what they read thru the Holy Sprit. A lot of times when I read my Bible I come to a chapter or verse I don't understand but its happened so many times that same passage will reveal itself as to what it means. Not true, an Hebrew speaking person can talk to an Hebrew from 3000 years ago, Some of the famous kurmeran cave scrolls ,written in part more than 2000 years ago, can be easily read by any modern Israeli . A good explanation. There is not a one size fits all answer to this question. I worked with a very bright young lady engineer who learned Hebrew and then studied ancient forms of that language because she wanted to understand the original translations. She was suprised and facinated by the original texts. As the author of this video says trying to match the originals will lead to some awkward kinds of expressions. She found that out and realized that you need study the culture as much as possible to gain some kind of meaning that makes sense. Learning a second language has thought me that there are words or phrases which are difficult to translate from one to the other, some words require a complicated explanation to convey the same meaning. So add a few thousand years and it becomes obvious why some people spend a lifetime studying the Bible.

First of all, why list Greek last when it is Greek that the Bible was mostly written in Greek. All of the NT except the Gospel of Matthew and possibly the Letter to the Hebrews was written in Greek. Also, the OT was translated into Greek by Jewish Scholars in Alexandria and used by the Jews in the Holy Land at the time of Jesus. Secondly, the Greek Orthodox Church still reads and uses the Greek that was used at the time of the writing of the NT.

Let me ask, once you compare them to other translations, how do you decide which one is right, and why do so many other people get it wrong? Surely a god would know that this is a poor way to get the proper message across, so what’s his goal? Is it to rack up as many casualties as possible to fill the empty rooms in Hell? Since it can’t be a blunder, what is the purpose of setting up a method that is guaranteed to cause people to be led astray? You can’t have a claim that God wants all humans to go to Heaven when he only gives a method that’s guaranteed to make people burn.

I use ESV and KJV in parallel on the Blue Letter Bible app. Have KJV, NKJ, ESV in physical forms. I'd suggest a reputable translation that you understand as a primary and a 4 way parallel as a secondary.

A good tool is Bible Hub, it’s free you look up a scripture and it’ll give you 50 translations of the same scripture. I do think we are victims of bad translations handed down to the centuries. The word Aionion Translated eternal I believe is one of them. It meant in the age to come, I believe, not eternal, only God is eternal people have beginnings. They are not eternally punished, or have eternal life. Believers have Eonian life in the age to come and then they put on immortality.

Thank you for explaining the differences, it is easy to see how so many misunderstandings happen. Why would it not be best to use the Sumerian writings that predate all this including the flood story , as well as the Ethiopian Bible. Many books were not included in the Bible such a Thomas, Mary and others. Some more apocryphal texts are hidden from people. . So it seems that since the “creation”( gene isis) there has been manipulation of the information, such as changing Gods to God. It was written plural originally, and how do you address the watchers and beings, the artificial insemination of Mary by one of these beings? The earth existed before the creation story, the story Gene Isis is about the beings coming to earth and experimenting in a lab called the garden of Eden. It is an age old colonization story by other beings coming to earth and thought to be gods. These are gods with a little g, there is a GOD of the universe, but these beings, watchers, fallen angels, Nephilim, were from other stars. All the legends across the world agree.

These supposed scholars are no such thing. A true scholar looks at evidence and goes to a conclusion based solely on that evidence. These religious 'scholars' start with a conclusion. "There is a God and the bible is true". Irrespective of where evidence leads, they will never change that conclusion. That is not true academia.

This is completely bogus. If you read seven different "translations", and five of them are horribly bad, then the "full meaning" is badly distorted. This is like looking at the four options for a multiple-choice test to try and figure out the right answer of a question you don't understand. Three of those choices are incorrect, and completely unreliable for helping you choose the one which is correct.

I read the King James Version but also look at ASV, ESV, RSV and the God’s word or good news translation for additional clarity. Additionally, I read the original Greek and Hebrew text using an interlinear Bible and use Strong’s Concordance to research and study what the original words mean. I personally do not care for the NIV, especially the newer NIV mistranslations.

Better question would be which books should I read? The 66 of the Protestant, the 73 of the Catholic, the 82 of the Ethiopian? Etc. They can't all be the word of God.

My recommendation is to consider that Christ knew there would be this confusion and so set up an authority to pass on what the disciples learned. Find out which church this is and you will find the authority to teach scripture?

I agree that if you want to get a better understanding of the Bible then read multiple versions. However, you should read the Bible with a grain of salt. There are some beautiful lessons in it, but morality repugnant lessons as well. Most of the well known stories have been proven false. The Bible is not a historical record, but it can give you incite into the ancient Hebrew world, along with the evolving cult of Christianity. A most interesting sociological study of religious dogma.

I recommend not reading the bible or the Koran at all! All religions got their ethics and morals from the humans who wrote them.
