CONNECTING is my word for 2021-- connecting with people through my art. it also has a strong social impact that is quite relevant nowadays. in this video, i talk about how to connect 5 single pieces of art to each other, yet have them remain quite distinct.

When you first started this study, I was not attracted to the colors or the designs, had it been my work it would have ended in the trash. Then you started the doodles, oh what a transformation, the writing, symbols and then cutting the work up into vignettes that tell their own story but form a collective. Despite your apparent casual approach to initial brush strokes and doodles, you appear to have a well tuned inner aesthetic that drives this work. You are a continual reminder to me that practice and diligence are needed to tune the inner voice to give it richness and depth. Thank you. Have a wonderful holiday time yourself

I’m in the same place, Hillary. Art(watercolor) has made a tremendous difference in my life. Where I had lost total focus because I felt I lacked purpose in life, painting has given me something to look forward to on a daily basis. Beyond my creative attempts, being immersed in painting takes me into a deep meditative state that has done worked magic on me. I would never have believed the effect that art has in accepting what I thought was a bleak existence had I not become a very amateur artist. But an artist nonetheless!!.

What a grand idea. A word for the year. I'm horrible at keeping resolutions. Perhaps because they feel so heavy to me. A word is much easier. Or three. I've chosen three words: Patience (I tend to hurry by work), Focus (My brain tends to jump all over the place) and Creativity. Stay safe. Be well. Joyeux Noel.

I dont choose a word but the first one that came to mind was " Patience" I am not always a patient person and with this difficult time it is being tested. I love these paintings. I have made cards in the past in many forms but never painted them. I have some watercolours and you have inspired me to give this a go over the holidays. Here in the UK we are going into a lockdown on the 26th so my crafting will keep me sane. Stay safe and a Merry Christmas and I hope a better 2021

What - no gold? My word for 2021 is RESILIENT. I use Noodlers waterproof bullet proof black for my glass dip pen. You really have to find the sweet spot on glass pens. These are absolutely beautiful. Watercolor gouache is my preference. Have a Merry Christmas. We are also on lockdown for the holidays here in Alberta. 🎄❤️

I love everything about this video!!! Your art is very inspirational. I love the idea of making ATC cards out of a bigger piece of art work. I suffered a brain aneurism Sept. 1 2019. I ended up on a life flight from Alaska to Seattle and underwent 2 brain surgeries. When I made it home my sister stayed with me while I recouped. She has picked a word every year for years. She had me pick a word and my word was Simple Abundance. She made me a piece of art with my word on it. It is on the wall in my living room. My word for 2021 is Be Present. I guess its a phrase , but it works for me. I really found it helpful to keep me focused with my brain not working like it used to. Thanks Ceecee!!!

My word for 2020 was Brave (I am still recuparating from an RTA in MArch as well as the Covid restrictions so it has served me well) ... watching this and chattng with a friend I found the word "Endurance" in my head so I think that is my 2021 OLW.

I hadn't thought about specifically picking out a word, but I've been thinking about 'kind' and 'kindness.' I always give a thumbs up on the videos I watch because I know it helps the creator of the video, but I've started leaving comments too. Something kind, or something I was taken with on the video. I'm also making the effort to connect more often with friends. And something else I'll be doing for the first time in 2021 - I'm buying a Planner. Between COVID, and my physical limitations, the idea of a planner sounded like a joke to me at first. But I saw one with lots of birds, by one of my favorite artists, and decided to order it. It's a weekly planner, so there's space to write a few lines for each day. Instead of 'planning,' I'm going to use it at the end of the day to record my thoughts, what happened during the day, gratitude, etc. I guess that's a way of being kind to myself. Hope your holidays are wonderful. I do enjoy your videos, and sometimes do the watercolor spots with doodles. Mostly for ATCs.

Thank you for sharing this lovely test of new paints. It turned out beautifully. Gouache is a chalk based paint, I think that’s where the grittiness comes from. I just now decided that my yearly word will be Movement. I’ve become very sedentary in the last few years and it is affecting not only my physical body but my mental state as well. This can also apply to my art! More ‘movement’ in my pieces. Thank you for the inspiration!

I have to say I'm really loving your recent foray into these smaller ATC type creations. It's really inspired me to pick up my brushes and watercolours, as well as inks and pens. I can see this becoming very much part of my own creative journey in 2021 - so thank you for sharing. I spend hours trawling KZbin watching people create wonderful things and I've let my own gremlins cripple me - always thinking I'll never be quite good enough. I watch you on You Tube on my TV. Love watching you on the big screen, but hate that there's no way to comment. So I'm on my computer telling you how much I enjoy your videos. But more than that, you have inspired me to take up my brushes and do watercolors again. I haven't done painting or drawing in far too many years. It's true that if you don't use it, you lose it. But your abstract watercolors with doodles gave me the courage to start painting again. This year has been such a bummer. Painting every day has given me some happy time to not to think about it. You've helped me out of a deep depressions that sat in after the pandemic had been in effect & normal get-together with friends or family were no longer wise. I always said that isolation was my lifestyle, but enough is enough! Somebody (perhaps you) said, "Do what makes you happy." That statement was magic. For too long my mind was only on the negative. This "gave me permission" to play. Thank you for your many wonderful videos and the encouragement you give us.

I was so exited when I heard you mentioning you choose a word to travel along with you for a year. I've been doing this for like five years now and it started when I realy needed to let go of a lot of things that were troubling me. I choose the (Dutch) word 'loslaten' (...as I am from Holland) which means something like 'let it go'. It was so helpfull for me! Love your artwork by the way.
