You can do this! Watercolor can feel like a cage, or like freedom. Depends on your expectations and goals. I love the freedom! 🙌 The book is beautiful. Lovely work. Paul Ruben Paints are very highly regarded in watercolor circles. Excellent quality and affordable. Keep going! I love what you are doing. ❤

Thanks for reviewing this book Ceri, I've been wanting it for a while and now I know I definitely need it, your paintings are amazing, I can't wait to see more. I've tried experimenting with sprinkling salt on when the paint is wet and it gives amazing textures, which has been a fun thing to play with, and different papers have different effects I discovered, thanks for another interesting video, I can't wait to see more. 😃

Ceri, For the past years I've been torn between gell print, stamping, and watercolor. Abstract drawing from nature is my thing. I did a practice painting in my sketchbook. It started out well, but I couldn't stop and tried adding too many details and ruined it. It was a good learning experience. "Making Color Sing" by Jeanne Dobie is another good book.Good luck on your Journey!

Your paintings look great, Ceri! I’m also on the watercolor journey and have found Lindsay Weirich aka the frugalcrafter to be an awesome teacher! I did her watercolor class and learned so much. She just created a line and wash botanical class that I got but haven’t started. I believe she’s teaching that with the same watercolors as you mentioned - the ones you previously reviewed. She’s over on teachable, which has a fairly easy user interface if you’re interested. Look forward to seeing your journey!

Hi Ceri. I have enjoyed looking at this book for months as I recover from shoulder surgery. I cannot wait to start the projects. Whenever there is white space within a work, once it’s dry I go over the white with my Posca pen, as my hand is never that steady. Thank you for this video. I just subscribed.

Wow! What a find! I bought watercolours to go on holiday this past summer and enjoyed playing with them; but there is that learning curve. Did some grungy washing for backgrounds in JJs. Tried more sketchy things with smaller brushes (playing) on holiday in the BnB on some 'proper' watercolour paper blew my mind! The difference with the paper has me really intrigued and wanting to play more. Going to look up the book now. Diolch yn fawr iawn! Thank you for sharing this and your process, darling! 🥰

💜💜💜 Ceri, just a small FYI - if you lose white space, you can re-wet the dry paint and remove it with a dry brush or dab it off with a tissue, Q-tip etc. I am ALWAYS loosing my white spaces! Wet only the parts you want to bring back to white.

Lindsay Weirich(the frugal crafter) has just released a class on watercolor botanicals, mostly flowers. I’ve found her to be very down to earth about techniques and supplies, very responsive to students, and very encouraging. She’s also very into mixed media, so incorporating pencils, gouache, inks, stamps, what have you.

Masking fluid may work for you. I came to realize that I do not watercolor as most people do. I fill my paper with color. There is not that much true white in nature. I tend to paint sunsets and green summer scapes, etc. I paint like I am using acrylic. So don't stress, enjoy.
