Do you commute to work on your mountain bike? How do you liven it up? Let us know below 👇
@geemail3695 жыл бұрын
Yep, 5k, (12mins if i'm late 😅), shower@work! If i feel like riding i just make time by startin earlier, doing a few laps at the local park (providing minor elevation) or practice my slow-riding skills on a few obstacles along the way. Same on my way home. 🤙🏻

Yes, but sadly I only have a bit of stairs on my way, since my commute is rather short and Frankfurt is pretty flat.

Yes, I Live in Edinburgh near Arthurs Seat which is a dead volcano. Multiple short but steep trails, techie climbs, stairs and there is also a pump track half way up. Always try to hit a couple on my way to work and back. Then jump onto the roads and smoke most roadies on there 2kg 3x whatever bikes haha.

That's the reason why mtbs are the ideal bike especially for getting around, fun to shred stuff on and usually light weight so it's easy to ride and of course they can go almost anywhere
@pdpd-pd5 жыл бұрын
living in Brooklyn NY this is pretty much the only way to get better on the bike - for most out here getting to the mountain more than once a week (if even that) is a luxury. but with the right eye and mentality there’s plenty of urban decay and construction to take advantage of - uprooted cobblestone kickers, concrete barrier wallrides, even mini DH lines to keep you sharp. the other day i was out in my neighborhood and there were so many wooden pallets littered across the sidewalk that it almost felt like an urban north shore course. it’s definitely not a free for all - and takes responsibility and common sense/courtesy to ride street on the mtb. having spent most of life skateboarding i may have a different mentality than most. but i’ve found in a major city like NYC you can often get yours without bothering anyone or getting a cop’s attention - so long as you’re paying attention to everything going on around you.

I live in Zurich and lucky enough to commute with a bit of everything: urban, hills, single track and a maintained DH bike trail. After watching Neil's video on manualling I figured it was time to get this nailed. At the bottom of a long descent on the flat I overshot the balance point and split my knee open (when i pulled my thermals down I could see me knee cap) Small operation on my knee and bed bound since last Tuesday. Moral of the story kids? Always wear knee pads even on the commute.

Oh and did I mention the conditioning you'll get out of this? I commuted 11,5-13km each way for 2 months total, broke 3k km that season and it made me a BEAST! Great video!!! This is fairly close to what I deal while ridding in Queens, NYC... 1.5 hour loop to the office instead of a straight 3O-40 min ride in traffic. I go through some extensive paved and packed-dirt bike paths, park trails, and other urban settings with some great hills and technical settings -but almost practically traffic free. Great distance on a workday -roughly 30 Miles round trip and about 3-3.5 hours of MTB for the day!!! Very happy to see I am not alone!!!

my bike is a little strange, it's a very lightweight XC frame paired with a lightweight XC suspension fork, drop bars a little wider than road drops with a flare in the drops (the kind of thing you would expect to see on a gravel bike), hydro disc brakes, sram force 1 1x drivetrain, MTB pedals and then i have 3 sets of wheels one with a 1.7'' slick, a 2'' all terrain tire and a 2.3'' MTB tire which i switch between depending on what i'm going to be doing but i usually just use the all terrain tires i used to have have multiple bikes but this bike has replaced everything because it can go anywhere and do anything, i call it frankenbike

Been mountain bike riding to work and back for the past 2 years (4 miles each way). It takes me 5 minutes less than if I go on the old motorbike due to shortcuts and traffic jam avoidances. Every time I take that for an MOT they're very dubious of the lack of mileage each year until I explain the reason.

This is all great if you work at GMBN and live in a city which is not completely flat. Tried commuting to my university once. Turned out to be almost exclusively road riding without any interesting features at all, we're not talking 30 cm drops and bunnyhops. Not to mention you are not supposed to come to a university somewhat wet/dirty. Or angry as hell. Same applies to most jobs, probably. And if you have any kind of dress code, you can just straight up drop the idea. This all limits the MTB commuting possibilities to certain places, certain jobs and certain types of riding. As much as I'd love to ride a trail to my uni and back...
