Man what a tune. I asked him how he got that effect on the vocals & he told me he applied a "gate" to it that wasn't meant mentor vocals... every other dance tune that came out afterwards had something similar but having those kind of original ideas made Sasha so much better than anyone else
@Impassion4 жыл бұрын
I know that the 'gated snare' (drum) was a big sound in the '80's..... I think Prince did it, Phil Collins/Genesis did it....

It was legendary 80s producer Hugh Padgham who invented the gated drum sound. But yeah - this track bangs and Sasha is a god amongst men.

I wonder if it was just a happy accident and he liked it, so he kept it? You can hear a gate being applied to the synth's chord progression throughout this tune and it was pretty easy to 'mess up' and apply the gate to the vocals/sampler instead of the synth back when everything was coming through a desk. I mean, gating synths to produce rhythms had been around a long time before Sasha. Listen to early New Order, lots of their tunes have synth rhythms created through gating. But you might be right about the effect he produced on the vocals here, it's certainly a very early example if it's not the first.
