I tried home computer recording 25 or so years ago and was completely overwhelmed. I've recently bought some basic kit and have been trying to find tutorials for Cakewalk so that I can get back into it and am SO glad that I found your KZbin channel! Informative, easy to understand whilst not feeling that you're being talked down to, enough technical information to make you want to explore further and (best of all) it encourages you to make progress. Thank you so much.

You know? I am a person that is not afraid to express how I feel about anything. I love your videos and how you teach! I love the fact that you don't have long ass intros full of BS and talking making weird jump cuts with strange facial expressions before you actually get to the content you are to teach. There are a lot of "video tutorials" out there that I click out of in the first few seconds of it because I am annoyed and turned off it right off the bat. I only subscribe to those who are right to the point and not with a bunch of immature gestures. Thank you and Bravo to you for being so professional about what you do ! Peace Brother! and stay safe!

Great tutorial. I'm in the process of re-learning to record my work on a laptop afer 14 years away from it. I used Tracktion with a stealth plug before (might have used Audacity also, can't remember) but all these years later I have developed Aggressive Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and I'm losing my dexterity sadly. So I figured I should get my stuff recorded before I can't play anymore. With your excellent video I will be able to understand what I'm doing again (MS affects my cognitive abilities too). Using Cakewalk, a UMC 22 interface, my physical instruments and your help it will enable me to leave a musical legacy so thank you!

Great stuff! What I would like to see is a guide on troubleshooting your system when there is no sound, latency or no midi working. Nice and to the point. Well done! There are two things I want to mention in my own experience--1. When I tried to download Cakewalk and selected all the options, the process hung for hours until I stopped it. When I tried again, I just selected Cakewalk and it went through; I then went back and selected the add-ons and they went through. 2. When I launch Cakewalk, the ASIO driver also launches...and I can't hear any audio from KZbin. So I did a lot of launching, quitting, watching, launching, quitting, watching. Might be my set up, but I wanted to show my experience.

@danieklerr
@danieklerr 3 жыл бұрын
@@intrudergrid9530 .. I've used dozens of interfaces over a period of nearly 30 years, and they all can be operated with an ASIO driver. There are companies which (foolishly) recommend against using ASIO, but you can still use an ASIO driver. And, in my humble opinion, you should, as it will maximize your performance/latency in your DAW environment.
@mikeomalanga709

@@danieklerr you seem to know your stuff. First off what does ASIO even do? Next, when I clicked ASIO I had no audio so I just changed it back to MME (32 Bit). Would that be an issue?
@danieklerr
@danieklerr 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeomalanga709 .. Hello.. ASIO is driver protocol developed by Steinberg (original developer of the VST, and maker of Cubase), designed to optimize performance and decrease latency. If you chose ASIO and heard no sound, it's because once it's chosen you have to select your interface again as the device for audio input and output. If you go back to MME, it won't hurt anything. Also, if you are using the native audio in your computer, without an external interface, I'm not sure it's possible to use the ASIO protocol. I hope this helps. If not, let me know and I'll try to walk you through it.

Press 'P' or go to Edit->Preferences, from there select devices, and check if your input/output devices are correct. If not, resolve the problem. If there are no devices it is most likely that your are using ASIO4ALL, so you need to set it up from ASIO4ALL control panel or simply switch to any other mode.

Thanks for the video. Just left Reaper for another shot at Cakewalk as I am trying to record in mono but Reaper has that feature buried so deep I can't find it. I really like the look of Cakewalk, all the photo realistic aspects are a really joy to behold.The minute I saw those real vu meters in the channel strip I was hooked. I m sure that Reaper is probably more powerful and versatile, but I am no pro, I just need something that is simple to use and looks good at the same time. And oh yea, its free, you just have to put up with band labs weird ideas of how the internet should work, took me five tries to figure out how to download and install Cakewalk by Bandlab, but in the end it was worth the effort. Thanks again for your good tutorial.

@WFR reading and rereading and trying to figure out a solution . . . When I installed Cakewalk even though checked "install everything," I had no virtual instruments at all but cakewalk could see my usb interface. But no sounds. Solution was that my virtual instruments had not at all been installed (despite having checked the boxes). I had to go back to Bandlab assistant and perform supplemental installs of the other parts. There's a learning curve to MIDI which was one of my problems. To record midi audio you must be sending it to an audio track. But I'm so inexperienced that I question the value of my own advice. Please see my previous post and tell us if you solve the problem. I solved mine. My advice is find a MIDI keyboard. It will do everything you need. And Im convinced we're in the right place.

My method is Tracks-- Bounce to track(s) - (Destination) New Track (Preset )Blank- (Source-)Tracks- (Channel Format) Stereo (Source Tracks) Track 1 Track 2. It creates a stereo Track 1 and a stereo track 2. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? The issue was a mistmatch between your interface and Window's Default Format. For example, if your DAW project is set to 44k and your Interface to 41, the audio interface will "take over" and prevent windows from using the bus. To fix this you need to change window's default sample rate to the one u usually set your DAW project with work with. Go go Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Right click your Presonus' Main out device (Default device) -> Properties -> Advanced -> change the Default Format to the one your DAW uses. That's it!

Hi, thanks for watching. All DAWs tend to struggle when using the internal sound of your system. The error is happening because the audio system is being shared by Cakewalk and other programs. You can do some basic things, but in reality you need a dedicated audio interface for music production. In the meantime, this may help www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Troubleshooting.12.html
